HTC one m8 pattern unlock with fastboot enabled

I'm really hoping that somebody can help me unlock and reset my htc one m8 from the pattern lock. The phone is in fastboot mode and have tried to reset via power button and holding the up volume button, but with no success. PLEASE HELP!!! I've only had phone 3 days and am severly frustrated. Anyone able to help??

With the power off, hold volume down while powering on.

Choose factory reset from the menu.

Can't you login with your google account after so many bad attempts with whatever lockscreen you have?

Unfortunately not. I thought after 10 failed attempts it would automatically... but kept trying and got to 75 attempts so posted my help question.

Are you saying that because you had it in fastboot mode, you can't power it down?

Then try to reset by volume up + power and as soon as it starts down on the reset, hold the volume down button.
