Help htc one mini keeps restarting even in bootloader

vinci

Newbie
I guess the title is self-explanatory. I have a HTC One Mini (M7 I think, the one before the penultimate). All of a sudden it started rebooting. Only the logo shows up, it vibrates then reboots. I was able to get into the bootloader, but it restarted shortly afterwards every time. I can go through the menu for about 3 seconds, but that's it.

I understand that one possible solution would be changing the battery or taking it off and then putting it back in. As you know, the battery is non-removable and I'd need to break it down, which is quite hard for me, as I have neither the tools, nor the experience.

So the question is, before I'd try getting it repaired at a service, is there anything else I can try to do? The battery now is completely discharged. If I wait enough, can I charge the battery without the mobile automatically trying to boot up and then maybe it recovers by itself? Or am I just beating around the bush?

Thanks!

To be honest I think you are in serious trouble here. Just letting the battery run down to the point where the phone shuts down isn't the same as physicality disconnecting it, and I don't guarantee that it will help. The phone will shut down before the battery is completely discharged, and for a good reason (deep discharge is very bad for batteries). You can try, but I don't know whether the RAM will discharge in this state, or how long you should leave it.

But actually there is no guarantee that disconnecting the battery would help anyway. It depends why it's in this state. Generally forcing a restart (press and hold power button) should suffice.

Do you have any idea what started this? Has it ever got wet?

It didn't get wet.

The only thing that might have anything to do with is is trying to connect it to my Windows 7 virtualmachine (on VirtualBox) on my macbook, where I received a connection error. I don't remember exactly the error, but it said that it couldn't connect the usb. So I couldn't make absolutely any changes to it. (It was probably related to the virtualbox extension pack that I needed to reinstall - without which I couldn't use usb 2.0 or 3.0, but that's I different problem).

Anyway, I unplugged it and it worked perfectly until the early hours of the next day. So if there's any connection to that, it didn't manifest itself immediately. I've heard someone having the same problem and who solved it easily by changing the battery. He told me that it's a sort of electric bug. It's really frustrating that I can't do anything to disconnect the battery somehow.

Regarding the battery running dry, the phone discharged the battery by itself by constantly restarting for about three hours in a row. There was nothing I could do about it. So there was nothing I could do. That's why I was asking if there's any kind of mechanism to tinker with the battery without disassembling the phone.
