hey there guys. i ve recently got the htc one and i want to sync it with my pc and transfer all the stuff from my old iphone. the problem is that when i plug it in my pc, the phone ONLY charges. it is not found in the "this PC" folder, nor is it recognized by the htc sync manager.

my pc is a MSI running windows 8.1 pro. my carrier is irrelevant since i am not in the usa or the uk.
i tried EVERYTHING. uninstalling and reinstalling drivers, changing the drivers signatures for the usb ports, going into device manager to see it, but its not there. i did enter developer mode to enable usb debugging as some said. i tried the phone on another pc running windows 8 but still nothing. i even installed outlook cause an htc rep told me it was necessary, still nothing! the only thing i didnt do is to change cable but i am pretty sure that wont be the problem (according to others in this forum). there shouldnt be any fluff in the port as it is a new phone...

pleeease help!

USB cables come in 2 flavors - 2 wire and 4 wire.

The 2 wire cables are power-only, no data. To transfer data you need the 4 wire kind. (You can't tell by looking - come "cables" have 2 "wires", each of which have 2 actual wires in them.

If you're not using the cable that came with the phone, you should be. If you are, you could have a defective cable (or a defective phone, but that's a lot less likely).

you know what Rukbat, you were right...
you have no idea how many hours i spent on the damn thing, and turns out it was the cable that was faulty. everything is cool now, the phone is recognized by the pc and all.
so, props for the suggestion Rukbat. i was gonna try it out eventually cause i tried everything else, but after you said it i went straight to the hts service center and voila...

cheers.
