I'm getting the One delivered today but I can see reasons for both devices.. think I would have had the Nexus 4 myself if it had been out when I renewed my contract last time.
 
If you want pure, unskinned android and the fastest updates without rooting, plus the easiest root going, then the Nexus 4.

If you want the best hardware, then the One.

Personally I can change software myself.

I would have bought an S4 last year if Google had included sufficient storage, but 16GB max was a deal breaker for me.
 
The trouble with the comparisons is it's always horses for courses: what suits you may not suit me.

The HTC One sounds awesome and as the previous post suggests, is probably a better piece of kit than the Nexus.

Having said that, the Nexus is also pretty awesome and I'm really happy with mine.

And if I was buying now, I'd probably still go for the Nexus 4: the One and the S4 may be better, but for me, the difference doesn't justify the extra cost.

But that's just me - a tightwad :)
 
Umm, if you can live with 8-16GB of storage the Nexus 4 is a better deal.

HTC One is bit faster, better camera, higher resolution screen and has more storage options... But costs allot more.
