You typically have to unlock the bootloader to permanently root an HTC.

Unfortunately, Verizon absolutely refuses to let their phones in on that.

Your alternative is to remove the bootloader security (s-off) and there is only one tool I know of that *might* do that - Sunshine -

However - I read on another site that didn't work out well.

Plus you're going to need a working custom recovery.

I didn't find anything checking for you.

I'll check some more but it's not looking good.
 
If that's the case, then there is not much hope left. I have a;ready tried Weaksauce, Firewater, HTC Dev in order to unlock the boot loader, Kingo Root and HTC Bootloader unlock.

Result: NOTHING!

So, if there is no other way around, it seems I'm gonna have to stick with all the bloatware installed!

Well as you probably know, internationally it's the One Mini 2 and that's starting to gain traction.

The dual sim One was left out in the cold for a long time but I think that they're finally getting that sorted - so based on all that I'll keep my fingers crossed for you.
 
I know, it's because it is the same phone as the Mini 2, that I chose to buy the Remix, even though I live in Greece. The remix was almost half price than the Mini 2. I guess now I know why...
 
By the way, I have also contacted HTC and asked them to reflash my phone with the European ROM. To my surprise, they told me that they can't unlock the boot loader themselves either! They said that it's all up to Verizon, to permit the unlock!

Can you believe it? I mean, they are HTC and it's their phone, right?

That's all tied to their Verizon contract.

Technically they could do anything, contractually not so much.

Did you buy your phone outright or subsidized on contract?
 
Bought it on Ebay. I had bought a Verizon iPhone in the past and there was no Verizon software installed, so I thought it would be pretty much the same thing on Android.

Verizon is like that, second worst is AT&T. I have Sprint and can uninstall or deactivate my Sprint bloatware, plus they're root friendly.

Verizon never got over getting the iPhone after AT&T and have their carrier-branded phones pretty much locked down. :(

Did you let HTC know that you own it out right? Seems like the law on carrier unlocking ought to play in your favor changing to a European rom.
 
I took it to the official HTC service provider in Greece. I have a friend who works there, so I am pretty sure he won't lie to me. The problem is that they don't know how to unlock the bootloader. He also told me that if I manage to unlock it myself, he will gladly flash the EU rom.
 
Still searching and I have just run on website that claims to have an app called iroot (formely vroot) that can root more than 150,000 android phones. I have just downloaded but to my surprise Intego VirusBarrier signalled a malware threat. Could it be because of the exploit included or is it a real threat?
Have you heard anything about them?
It seems they have also developed an apk app in order to root the phone without the use of a PC.
What do you think of that?
Should I give it a try?

I was thinking of another option but I don't know if it 's doable.

Maybe I could use HTC Sync to repair the phone, locate the downloaded rom, replace it with another stock rom, rename that with the same file name as the one downloaded by Htc sync and fool the app to flash my stock rom instead of the Verizon rom. Is all this possible?

If I have a stock rom other than Verizon 's maybe I can obtain root.

Your problem is encrypted signature security protection on all stock images.

Even if the path exists, tinker with the payload and it's likely to break things.

Well, well, thank you Sunshine app gang! Took a bit of patience on my part, but Sunshine finally handles Remix.

HTC One Remix from Verizon, Android 4.4.2

Sunshine to s-off...pay the fee once device support is verified.
Installed TWRP recovery.
Installed SuperSU from Chainfire (can do this from Play store).
WeakSauce2 for root (need version 2).

Not quite as elegant as permaroot, but it'll do for now. My phone is rarely turned off anyway, so root shortly after bootup is fine by me.

If you launch SuperSU, you might get the binaries out-of-date message and it will fail to load them...simply reboot, from thereon, cancel if prompted to update and don't bother with the binaries update. When WeakSauce2 runs, SuperSU will still do it's work, prompting for app root when needed, add to whitelist and such, just as expected.

Root Checker verified, and now Titanium runs just fine.
 
Thanks ChezJfrey, I followed your process and it worked.
Only problem I have is that
usually when I reboot I loose supersu function completely. So I have to run weaksauce2 and reinstall the supersu apk. Then I ignore the binaries warning and everything works fine. The whole process takes about two minutes so I can't complain, my phone works much better rooted and tweaked!
