Help HTC ONE S getting only 2G data speed - defective?

I have a new HTC ONE S with a problem I posted in the Simple Mobile subforum because at the time I thought it was due to Simple Mobile.

Later on I did some tests and it seems to suggest it may be a problem on the phone.

Basically I am getting 2G data connection on this phone, but when same SIM put to other phones (3 separate phones I tested one is exactly the same model) I get 4G.

I wonder if there is a test I can perform to check if it's hardware issue.

Any thoughts?

Try factory reset? Exchange for new one?
