HTC phone charger question

Newbie
I recently upgraded my wife's Verizon Blackberry 8530 to an HTC Thunderbolt. Everything is working great for the HTC. I was looking online for some bundle packages that include a case, wall charger, screen protector, etc.

While browsing, I noticed one of them had a description for the wall charger and basically mentioned it being compatible with the blackberry. That got me to wondering if our current Blackberry 8530 charger would work with the HTC Thunderbolt. Sure enough, its the exact same plug and fits perfectly.

Can I just use the old Blackberry charger as a spare one for the HTC Thunderbolt?

Yes, nearly all phones now-a-days are using the same micro USB port. Just check that both chargers are the same voltage to be sure: usually 5V.

Yes, I think the BB charger is a standard USB charger with 5V output voltage.
To be sure the output current should be equal or more than 1A (1000mA).

You should see something like "5V/1A" :)

Awesome. Let me ask this too. I have an older LG flip phone with Verizon. A VX8350. I JUST ordered a LG Revolution (Verizon) online & it will arrive Wednesday. It just dawned on me on their power adapter as well. Since they are the same brand, will my old LG VX8350 power adapter work with the new LG Revolution and do they basically have the same plug end as well? Or will the Revolution maybe have the same plug as the newer HTC & Blackberry.

I'll obviously be able to see if they are the same plugs on Wednesday & what I'm dealing with. Will cross my fingers they are the same, but just thought I would ask here as well.

Same answer, has to be an USB standard charger :)
But I doubt that the old charger has the same phone plug, but maybe you are lucky :)

Be careful here everyone.

If your HTC phone is designed for a 5V charger, and you plug in a 4V charger, no harm is really done. However, the phone will take forever to charge, and you risk damaging the charger because the phone is asking for 5V when the plug provides only 4V.

If you plug in anything higher than 5V, you risk ruining the battery for sure, and possibly the phone. Sure, it will charge much faster, but the battery and circuits are not meant for the surge.

Microusb plug and 5volts is supposed to be the standard for everything but iphones now. Our blackberries at work starting with a new order for us early this year use this.

If it has a microusb plug it should almost surely be 5v.

The BB chargers are .75A instead of 1A though, slightly slower charging (when you're below 75% anyway) but just fine to use.

Yea, I got home and looked at the specs on our blackberry charger. 5v ~ 700mA so I guess I can use BOTH the home charger and car charger.
