On my Desire S and One, power and home combination also takes a screenshot. I find it easier to use than the power/volume down - just press and hold the power button and tap home (you have about three seconds before 'phone options' pops up).
The One (running 4.2.2) also has a dedicated screenshot button in the 'two finger' pull down menu.
