Help Htc sensation xe - auto rotation not working

allypolly

Hi,

I've had my phone for about 14 months. Everything worked fine until 3 months ago - my auto rotation has stopped working. I have tried to enable, disable and enable the function in settting, but to no good effect.

I have tried to search the problem on google without much success. I think the problem could be related to the gyro sensor. But in reality I have no idea what this is.

I do have mobile phone insurance, but I'm worried that they are going to say this is a fault that I caused (dropping the phone, or that it's wear and tear). By the way, I haven't dropped the phone in a big way, occasionally it's fallen on the floor.

Could someone advise me if they know the part that would be broken and if I can claim this on my phone insurance?

Thanks,

Alistair

Welcome to Android Forums!

There are some apps and widgets which can interfere with the rotation function in some Android devices. Have you installed or reconfigured anything lately?

Also, there is a tool available in Play Store, called "Advanced Tools," which can detect and help un-bork various system functionality.

Have you tried a factory data reset? Back up your needed data first, of course, but that may remedy the issue.

Hi,

Thanks for the welcome and the quick reply!

I just downloaded that app and I "killed" the applications that were running, but it hasn't made any difference - is that what you had intended me to do?

I did a factory reset about 2 months ago, but it didn't do anything. About 4 months ago, I had problems with the auto rotation it used to stop working sometimes but then it would resolve itself. But for the last 3 months it hasn't worked at all.

In my completely UNINFORMED opinion, I have a feeling that this could be hardware issue and not a software one, as I think I have done everything I can to check it's not the software. Can the gyrosensor get damaged easily?

Many thanks
