htc sync has broken my computer!

Lurker
Just got the one x and went to connect it to my laptop to transfer my iTunes.

Something has gone wrong though as the computer came up with a big blue screen saying IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL. I can only open my computer in safe mode or it crashes!

I have windows 7 on an acer laptop

Help please!

So you blame the phone or HTC sync for the blue screen?
Let me rephrase that, it may be HTC sync, but there could be a lot of other causes. ITunes could be one also. If there are compatibility issues then usually the app would crash not the os. Driver issues could crash an os but they are specifically assigned to an app to use.

Is the phone still plugged in? IRQ is more often than not HW related. IRQ is a line where hardware communicates. Each device should be assigned an IRQ...

Are you familiar with how to do a clean boot and start the process of elimination of the boot processes to determine the actual problem?

Windows still offers msconfig don't they? or did they rid that wonderful little tool? Only bad thing about Linux is you don't keep up with Windows or its issues anymore

anyways to see if you have msconfig just open the run box and type msconfig if it opens it up you have it if it doesn't then maybe a Windows Guru can help you with the clean boot process

Yes, Unplug EVERYTHING from your computer except keyboard, mouse, and monitor. See if it'll boot.

Guys - although I am good with computers, I don't know a lot about how they work and technical terms. If anyone could give advise in normal speak that would be great!

I unplugged my phone after it happened - didn't want it ruining my phone!

I did a google search and it suggested it had something to do with a missing driver or one that doesn't work...

I tried uninstalling HTC sync but it said it couldn't uninstall it as it wasn't installed correctly.

Also, I hadn't even got near ITunes when this happened - I was installing HTC sync, the blue screen came up with the error message and I haven't been able to turn my laptop on unless it is in safe mode since.
