I dropped my HTC Velocity, and it has important info on there that I need. Screen in black although it is paler when I start it how can I get stuff off the phone or back up what is on there please

Connect it to a computer and copy any files you find that you need.
If you need things not in files you can get to (contacts, texts, etc.), bring it to a phone repair shop and see if they have a parted screen (a screen from a phone they're saving for parts) that they'll plug into your phone to get the data off. Some shops will do it because they're nice, some will do it to get you as a customer, some will charge you and some will throw you out for asking.
