Help HTC Vivid won't boot

Have a HTC Vivid phone. What causes it not to boot? New fully charged battery...screen glows for several seconds, then goes out.
Hoping there's a solution. Thanks!
 
It sounds like the battery is not working dispite the fact it is new it may still be faulty,what happens when you plug in the charger?
Make sure it's a wall charger and not a usb.
