Help HTC Wildfire - WiFi connected but no Internet

Hi All,

Can anyone help me as my wife is driving me mad over her Wildfire not working properly!!!

It went wrong on 24th July at 11.10pm. I know this because the weather is stuck on that datetime (strangely not on the main screen which keeps up to date, but the separate App that came with the phone). Also I can't access the web despite a strong WiFi signal.

We have two WiFi hotspots in the house and we can't get an internet connection on either of them. Although my Desire HD works perfectly.

I've noticed that the IP address seems to be stuck on the same one despite hotspot switching. I would have thought a new IP address would be issued via DHCP. However, there doesn't appear to be an IP conflict anywhere as I've checked all the other connected gadgets in the house.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

All the best,

I can't believe this. After signing up to this forum to get some help I've actually fixed the thing myself!!!

Well I don't think I've fixed it, but I've got round it by applying a static IP address to the phone. So here's what I did...

Just go to WiFi Settings and then click the menu button and then click advanced. Tick static IP then enter the details.

Most routers will have a default gateway of either 192.168.0.1 or 192.168.1.1 then the IP address will be based on default gateway. I put a high value on the phone such as 192.168.0.200. This will stay out of the way of gadgets linking automatically to the router via DCHP.

the Subnet Mask will be 255.255.255.0
and DNS1 will be the same as the default gateway. There's no need to enter a value in DNS2. Logging on to your route is the way to find out.

Hope this helps anyone else out there with the same problem.

Just spend half of today trying with the same issue as you, and turns out I almost got there about 2 hours ago but hadn't quite got the process right.

To re-cap for those that are having a similar problem:

This morning my HTC Desire HD received a regular system update. This was a little bigger than usual, as I've been abroad for sometime, and it made some subtle but noticabld changes to the interface.

On logging on this morning, I found that although I could connect to internet via 3G, I was no longer able to access web pages through my home WiFi, even though this hadn't been an issue before. Even more irritatingly, the phone (and my router, when I checked via laptop) was showing the WiFi as fully connected, with 'excellent' signal. I could access my router's own IP (its a SpeedTouch), but nothing else.

Even more irritatingly, a short walk down the road to my local (pub) and I was able to access WiFi there.

The solution I used was to follow the advice above, and check the 'static IP' box under advanced WiFi settings, and I inputted my own device's IP, my router's gateway IP and the NetMask settings (I didn't even know what this was, but I googled it and used the standard one - listed in the last post in this thread).

The only bit that it turned out I had wrong was not filling in my Gateway IP in the DNS1 box... since I did, it's been working.

Hopefully HTC will sort themselves out and fix the bug in the next automatic system update, as it's very annoying!
