Htc without sense ui

I have search but did not find anything. Apologies in advance if that is not the case. However I have a question about HTC Hero. Can one root (or whatever one does to install other roms) the Hero and install 2.1 for example without sense ui. Lets say the newest Android version is out, can I install it on the Hero without waiting for the sense ui version??

You can, and there are details on the following link (AOSP Eclair 2.1 r4 for GSM Hero). There is probably also stuff on xda developers. You need a rooted device and a Nandriod backup, just in case.
