While renaming unnecessary .apk's to .bak's in order to avoid selecting them accidentally, I decided to get rid of HTC Hub and HTC Likes. So I renamed HtcDirect.apk and HtcRecommends.apk to .bak's and rebooted. I found that I could not connect to the internet. So I reinstated HtcDirect and rebooted, and the internet is once again available to me. My questions:
1. Is HtcDirect.apk the app for Htc Hub? If not, which one is? Has HTC built the internet access functionality, so to speak, into their Hub app?
2. Is HtcRecommends indeed the Htc Likes function and so safe to rename? Or does it possibly also control something important?
Thanks for any help on this. I rooted and installed a cleaned up stock AT&T ROM through the help on this site's forums, and I am SO much happier with my phone now. I stand on the shoulders of giants.
