Huawei D Quad UK release

Does anyone have any info regarding the UK release date of the Huawei Ascend D Quad XL, and/or whether it will be available contract-free?
 
Cheers. I've brought my O2 contract down to SIM-only and am standing by to get me an XL version as soon as they're available. :)
 
Exactly what I'm doing although ill be asking for a puk. Not staying with o2. They will lower me down to 1GB data and that is not enough for me.
 
Haha, I've just INcreased to 1Gb which is more than enough for me!
Have you checked out their SIM-only "On & On" tariff? Unlimited texts and minutes plus 2Gb data for
 
I dont need minutes. I get 600 minutes, unlimited text and data plus (at the time) top spec android handset for 35.

I could go as low as 200 minutes. I can get an xperia s on 3UK with unlimited data for the same price as that sim only deal
 
I agree. Everyone's needs are different, which is what the phone companies don't realise (why is it that in order to get higher data usage you have to pay for more minutes?). Anyway, either way, can't wait for the D quad!
 
Looking forward to the 32bitness with the screen and camera (and I'm not sure what 64bit memory means for us?), I was going to get this (the XL version) for someone who's looking to upgrade, but I might get this for myself and then give them my SII, lol!

Not sure about the back & menu capacitives being on the opposite side to how most phones have them though.

This phone deserves the attention the SIII got (and didn't deserve in the end).
 
Their UK facebook page has a couple of questions on this - one states that UK release will be "second half of year" and another that says the P series is Summer and the D series will follow the P series. All too slow and unclear for a device announced at MWC if you ask me. The One X was also announced at that time and Huawei really needed to get a jump on the big boys. They've left it too late. I'm sadly going to have to go with the GSIII.
 
This is annoying. I was pretty set on replacing my year-old SII with this but it's just not coming, and no further comment by Huawei is really disappointing, poor customer communication is a terrible way to start in the big league, it also reflects the most likely tone of updates/support.
 
I thought they said it was being released in July. (which is indeed the second half of the year)

Question 4's answer comes with the scary "The Huawei Ascend D quad is the only device to run the quad-core K3V2 chipset, and this will be available in selected markets later this year."

Huawei... Has phone that can compete with, if not, topple the S3, chooses not to release it.... at the time when it should, anyway.
Unbelievable.
And I'm certainly not buying the D Quad in November and then have them (or another company) announce a much better phone within 2 months.

Get that D Quad on the shelf before the end of July, otherwise you lose, Huawei.
 
After much research and consideration I've decided that as wonderful as the Huawei sounds, my most important criteria is screen size. Having always been a fan of large phones, and being currently a Dell Streak user, I've decided I'm going to go for a Galaxy Note. Neither the S3, One X or Huawei come close to the screen size of the Note, or even the Streak.
 
I half considered the note for screen size, but its nearly a year old now so I wont go back that far.

I take your point, but I put myself through that "Now look, what do you really want your phone to do?" thing and came to the conclusion that I'm not a power user, and that as wonderful as quad-core no doubt is, the speed and functionality of the Note is ample for my needs, at least for the time being, even if it is a year old. Therefore I'll get a Note now and move up to quad-core in six or eight months time when the dust has settled.
 
I need a quad core AND a large screen to run Ubuntu nearly as well as my laptop ;)

I am a power user I would think, but not really for productivity. For fun. But then my "fun" is playing being productive :)
 
Hot damn it annoys me that Huawei are basically treating the D Quad like it doesn't exist, it's not even mentioned on their facebook page anymore.

I feel compelled to give props to whoever it was that stole one of the two Mediapad 10s on show at MWC, someone out there is getting around with arguably the best/highest specced tablet around, Huawei still haven't gotten that to market either.
If only I had a 'borrowed' D Quad... Glorious feeling it would be.
 
I've just sold out and ordered an SGS3. The lack of release info on the Ascend D was too much for me in the end. I was desperate for a new device.

I really think you should have given my old HTC Wildfire S a fair shake. A sixth the price, pre-rooted and tons of ROMs and development options already in place. Clearly the superior deal :smokingsomb: [/OFFTOPIC]

Gsmarena.com is showing a 3Q12 release and there are almost no reviews of the thing. It looks like they aren't ready yet.

They can help the situation by upping the camera to a 10 or 12 megapixel BSI camera, but that's not going to happen.

The Menu and Back button are on the 'wrong' sides on the D Quad by my eye, but despite everything, I'm still planning on getting the thing, as I just can't be sure another manufacturer will release a 720p 4.5 inch screened phone in the year(s) thereafter, I'm primarily in the hunt for more PPI - the SII's 480x800 @ 4.27 inches is bringing on feelings of claustrophobia. It's a little hard to breathe. And I also look forward to the 32bit graphic power, the 16bit 'dithering' type effect on every current phone on the market (to my knowledge) has become a thorn in my side.

What does everyone else think of the menu and back capacitive button placement?


Edit- Just stumbled upon the news that Huawei will be showcasing their devices for the Oceania region at CommunicAsia 2012 event next week, they should give us release dates too, but I wouldn't rule out a continuation of their 'give no information' business strategy.

As for a UK release, Huawei also say that the D Quad will be available in 'Europe' this Summer, if that helps (I don't know when your Summers are).
