Help Huawei mobile not recognising UK sim

Hi,

I would be grateful if someone could offer some insight and possible solutions for this problem. I recently bought a Huawei mobile from a country outside of the UK and it was working. I have arrived back in the UK, and have inserted a UK sim but it appears that Huawei phone doesn't recognise this sim. It isn't receiving any calls, it just merely says 'No Service and emergency calls only'.

Thanks

If it's a Chinese market EVDO model there is no solution. It's most likely designed exclusively for network technologies that are not used (and not licensed for use) anywhere in Europe.

If you tell us the exact model we can check whether it should have any UK compatibility at all (e.g. 2G GSM), but if it hasn't there really is nothing you can do.

As in the mobile model?
If so, it's Y541-U02

Do you know for sure it's a China Telecom EVDO model? Because there are a lot of hits out there for a phone with that model number which should support UK networks (2G/3G anyway).

There was no warning about the SIM not being accepted? I'm just wondering whether it's SIM-locked.

That number comes up as a generally available Huawei Honor Bee dual-SIM. Which usually should work in the UK AFAIK. However has it got any branding like this on it anywhere?

If so, that's a Telecom CDMA/EVDO version, NOT going to work in the UK. Phones in China are not usually SIM-locked, but there's only one CDMA/EVDO network you can use these phones on anyway.

If it's dual-SIM, try putting your SIM in the other holder, because some devices are CDMA for one SIM, which won't work in the UK, and GSM for the other.

There's this you could try though...looks like same phone with same problem.

Turn off your Android Huawei phone and pull out battery and reinsert it after a few seconds.2. Press and hold both Volume UP + POWER buttons for about 15 sec. until Andorid recovery menu comes up.3. Select Factory reset /wipe data. (scroll down with VOL down.)4. Select with power. (may changed to Vol up)5. Scroll down to Yes -- delete all user data. Press power to confirm. After all is done press power to reboot system now. After data wipe has completed you are done. reset Huawei done.

BTW I'm originally from the UK, but live in China. And I've avoided China Telecom with phones for this very reason. Always used Unicom or CMCC.
