So I'm getting a new watch soon, and I'm really not sure where to go. I want the gear s purely out of functionality (speaker, full keyboard, making and receiving calls etc.) but it looks hideous. On the other hand, android wear doesn't allow you to make or receive calls directly on the watch, but the huawei watch looks so nice. Android wear does do some basic things, and apparently there is a really crappy keyboard (I don't mind). Anyway, can anyone do a quick comparison of all the features, and what are your opinions on these devices (I know the huawei isn't out, but really it's wear vs tizen). Thanks!

As noted, the Gear S runs on Samsung's Tizen OS so it will only work with certain Samsung devices. Android Wear, on the other hand, is compatible with any device running Android 4.3 or later.

If you want a "Dick Tracy" all-in-one gadget then a Wear watch isn't for you; they're a companion/augmentation to the smartphone, not a replacement.

As you said the Hauwei isn't out yet so there's no way to compare them.

Initially I thought the shape of the Gear S was odd but something about it kept pulling me in & I knew I was going to get one just as soon as I could. As far as the keyboard goes, I can never hit the right key so I just use voice which so far has worked exceptionally well. I haven't had to go back & make corrections before sending a text cause it got me wrong.

The biggest draw for me is being able to leave my phone at home; especially when I'm going to be out for a bit & really just don't want my phone on me. The fact that all other smart watches require tethering to your phone via BT only knocked them out of contention.

I've read nearly every *review* of the Gear S & the Dick Tracy references don't phase me at all- probably because I'm one of those confident-secure people who doesn't care what other people think & even if they spent their own money on it for me, I still wouldn't care what they thing.

The Gear S does what I need it to do. I didn't buy it expecting it to be a full-fledge phone replacement which I've also read a lot of & feel that many people who feel it should have placed their expectations too high.

Some folks find adding a plan to it is a problem; I OTOH don't.

I've never had an Android Wear watch so can't speak about that. So far Tizen isn't bad but that goes back to me saying I didn't expect this to be a full replacement for my phone. I'm satisfied with the apps I use but have to honestly say I wish there were more valuable apps compared to android.

Have to say that I love the look of the Gear S & if I hadn't paid £600 odd for my phone then I'd be getting one to wear with it.

Ditto,but my experience/decision was purely spur-of-the-moment.

:thumbsupdroid: AMEN! :thumbsupdroid:
Even if I had some reservations regarding look & feel, all that quickly vanished once I put the GEAR S on & the notifications began rolling-in.
The fit/contour looks great from my perspective. All others, you're entitled to your opinions,no matter how misguided & wrong they may be. :D

The new Gear will be compatible with all Android phones w/ 1.5GB+ or Ram and Kit Kat or higher.
