huge Thumbnail help

Emdigga

Lurker
Hi guys,
I haven't posted here before, but I am hoping someone can help.

Since November my phone (running Android 4.0.3) autocreates a huge (around 2gb more or less depending on the space on my sd card) thumbnails file in the DCIM folder over and over again.

Even if there is fifty, twenty or just two photos on my phone, it regenerates this file after taking one or two pics. Its really starting to annoy me because I cant delete this file without connecting the phone to a PC and it basically makes my camera totally useless if I am travelling, outside, or just want to take more than one photo lol. Looking around online I can see many people having this same problem across all different handsets but I can't seem to find a solution.
Is there any way to stop this repopulating?
I didnt have the problem from June to November when I first got the phone. and I had no problem like this on my previous phone which was running gingerbread.... so I am curious if it is a huge ICS bug or if its something thats simply solved :)

Please help :)
Thanks in advance

(ps. my phone is not rooted)
