Hyperion 4000mah battery and back just arrived!

Been on my Hyperian battery for a few days now and it's awesome! Must have especially for the price. The mugen sounds like a ripoff.

I agree, it is a ripoff... But some people buy it. And I want to know if it's really any better at all.

I'm more interested in the Mugen battery after the seeing results of my gorilla gadgets test 4500mAh, which showed it having 4430mAh capacity, the largest of any battery I have tested this far. The second best is Onite at 4280mAh. This is the GG test results in comparison to Hyperion, Onite, and Anker:
Extended-batteries-Hyperion-Onite-Gorilla-Gadgets-QCell-Samsung-Stock.png

The rain on that parade is that the gorilla gadgets battery didn't meet or exceed advertised capacity (but it is only 70mAh shy)(I did a second test and while the graph looks every so slightly different between the tests, the end capacity is the same. I didn't think to export a graph of that until now.).

Apart from the Hyperion battery, it is the second closest battery in actual capacity vs advertised capacity. But for an extra $8-$9 (I paid $35 for the battery, now it's $30, a Hyperion battery is $21 shipped) it's probably not worth the extra cost to most people.

What baffles me is that the stamp on the battery, SWB495060AR/12F25001 is the exact stamp as on the Hyperion and Onite batteries. (The Anker battery says 496060ARV/12F20S D 01 and the stamp looks a bit different and it has a branding mark so maybe it's a clone but it's not quite the same as the other batteries). I didnt find any differentiating mark between the GG and the Hyperion or Onite batteries, so I don't know how GG is supposed to trust their supplier to give them better batteries, or how they dont end up mixing batches of batteries.

Googling the part number only give useful results when searching 495060AR, and some results say they are 1650mAh and some say 2100mAh. I don't know if it's boilerplate text that has that part number keyword, or the letters or lack of letters or the designation after the slash is significant.

I also wonder if 1650mAh is the capacity you'd get out of a battery if you charge it to its preferred voltage of 3.8V. You get more runtime charging it up to 4.35v (which the phone does for you...) but you get reduced battery longevity. I did some quick looks at the charts but I couldn't say for sure whether or not 1650 is the preferred capacity or not.

A site I found useful and educational is batteryuniversity.com and while it's sponsored by a battery testing company, Cadex, I have no sort of affiliation with them (or any company. The testing is my personal hobby).

It could be natural variation and chance that I got batteries which give the results they do, but until I have reason to believe otherwise, it looks like this battery is really better. What I have found has shattered a lot of things I believed about the batteries and them having the same part numbers.

I keep my CBA busy with one battery or another as much as possible and eventually I might have some sort of longevity test. I'd need to buy an extra gadget that goes with the CBA which would let me plug a charger and cba and battery into it, and could do automated battery cycling. I don't have enough CBAs to keep one tied up like that though, but I do think I might get that add-on box for the CBA eventually.

I'm looking forward to testing my mugen battery now.

Where can I get one of those Hyperion batteries with shipping to Europe? Amazon is being very nationalist again (We're sorry. This item can't be shipped to your selected destination.)

PS: Hyperion is very-well known in the world of remote-controlled models. They have a reputation for making the highest quality, albeit rather expensive, LiPo batteries and chargers, so I have no doubt whatsoever that this is a quality product.

I had no idea that Hyperion was a know company. Lol

I do have the Hyperion and QCell cases, and my reviews of them are on amazon. However, I think the Hyperion case is terrible. It's just too small so it's too tight, but not in the right places. (The back is really taut but the sides aren't, so it doesn't hug the power and volume buttons). That makes the buttons difficult to push, and there's not much feedback that you've actually pressed a button, and it just feels shoddy.

The QCell one isn't perfect, but it's the best one out there for an extended battery. The QCell case I got was slightly longer on one side than the other, so a sliver of the metal appeared in one of the corners... and what has plagued every single white colored case I've gotten: it gets yellow after extended contact.

For better or worse, the QCell and the Hyperion back covers are identical, so what works for one will work for the other. I'll get the Mugen and see how it works with the QCell and Hyperion cases.

Although the Hyperion and QCell batteries use the same back plate, the Onite and Anker batteries each have their own unique back plate and neither of them work with the QCell cover. I can't remember if I've used the Hyperion cover with either of the Onite or Anker back plates, and my Hyperion case is at work.

Two Galaxy S3's in the house. One is using the QCell battery with the QCell case (I'm getting great life out of the QCell BTW) and an Anker using a Yesoo extended battery case (available on Amazon). I prefer the Yesoo case. It has a matte back and fairly grippy sides. It reminds me of a Diztronic matte case in look and feel. I think it goes for $7.99. The Yesoo case fits both the Anker and QCell perfectly.

Ended up buying the Hyperion 4200mAH after all the great reviews so I thought I would post a picture!

This is on the very first charge (I wonder how good it is going to get ...) with GPS, Wi-Fi, Auto-Sync on everything, and 6hours+ on screen!

Screenshot_2012-10-12-16-49-05.png

ONLY thing I do not like is the casing ... It looks and feels a little cheap. Hoping they end up adding more cases that I can purchase. At least it was only $8.99 (I live in Canada so it was like $50 after everything blegh) Still worth every penny.

Do you mean the back plate/battery cover, or a TPU case/skin for the phone? If the former, the QCell and Hyperion batteries have the exact same back plate. If you're talking about the Hyperion TPU, I personally think it's bad.

From my experience, none of the extended batteries I've had and tested (8 so far) work better the more they're used. I've had a mixed experience with standard batteries but I'm still trying to gather more data on it.

It's now at 2 Days 14 Hours and at 13% :D
Starting to look like it will hit 3 days.

I am talking about the casing that I purchased separately.

The hyperion case is a bit to smooth for me. But what other case would correctly fit the hyperion 4200 battery?

The QCell case fits, and it has a smooth, glossy outside so it grips fairly well, slightly less than the back of the phone. I compared the QCell and Hyperion TPU cases side by side just now, and indeed the Hyperion one is very slippery but the QCell one has substantial grip to it.

I have to agree here...had my Hyperian 4000 for a couple of weeks now, and it definetly is worth it. I got the battery and cover from Amazon.com for a whopping $22 dollars. All day on one charge...

Hmm... Not sure about those...

I just ordered the Gorilla Gadgets battery, because its on sale right now. I paid $25.20 which included the Priority mail shipping. I would have gone for the Hyperion if this one wasn't on sale.

Now my question is does anyone now which case will work with this batter and its cover?

If I remember correctly, the GG battery uses the same cover as the Onite or Anker batteries (I think it's the Onite style). That means it's not compatible with the QCell TPU, and I wouldn't recommend the Hyperion TPU. There is one other TPU on Amazon I haven't tried.

The selection of extended battery cases for the GS3 is very limited.

Just got the abovementioned case. For the MUGEN 4600 BATTERY COVER, it is just a bit small, as the bumper guard portion of the case only manages to fit/cover 1 side & the top of the phone.

I imagine the fit would be perfect w/a slightly less thicker battery cover.

For now, I'm using the YESOO case by itself, w/o a battery cover.
This may seem odd, but, both the cover & battery are firmly in place & the fit w/o the MUGEN 4600 battery cover is perfect.

If one wouldn't mind risking damaging/distorting the YESOO TPU cover, I imagine you could attempt to soften the case up by heating it just a bit (microwave / hot water, etc.. ) & attempt to stretch the TPU case over the MUGEN 4600 battery cover for a better fit.

If memory serves me, I think I only paid $24.99 for the Hyperion on Amazon and since I'm an Amazon Prime member, I got free shipping.

I am a prime member too, but since longus catus's review on his website rated Gorilla Gadgets as having a little more power I figured the additional 30 cents was worth spending especially when that was the extra cost including shipping.:smokingsomb: Otherwise I would have went with the Hyperion.

Not sure if anyone can help, but...

I got the Hyperion battery off Amazon.

Love The Battery

Hate the cheap battery cover.

Mine is already worn out, and barely stays on.

Is there anywhere that sells extended battery covers?

I would prefer to get a nice quality one, but I guess I can settle for the same one that came with the battery.

But the only extended battery covers I can find, are the ones that come with the extended batteries.

Has anyone managed to find covers without batteries for sale?

Amazon.com also sells the cases by themselves. Just do a serarch but here's what I found:
Amazon.com: Hyperion Electronics Accessories: Cell Phones & Accessories

I believe SEIDIO will sell you a cover w/o a battery. As this option is not posted anywhere on the site, just give them a call.
Their US operations are based in HOUSTON, TX. & expect to pay $14.99 for the battery cover.

Another option is to contact HYPERION, as you may have simply received a defective cover w/your battery. I'm sure since you purchased a battery from them, they'd be more than happy to send you a new one free of charge.

FWIW, my MUGEN 4600 EXTENDED BATTERY cover fits very tight & has a kickstand built-in, if this interests you.
I'm guessing MUGEN would sell you a battery cover, in hopes of getting future business from you. Just an FYI w/this battery cover : don't expect to find an extended battery case for this that will fit, as I believe the MUGEN 4600 extended battery cover is slightly larger than all the rest available.

Keep us posted on what action you decide to take.:D
