I am SO over Swype.....

I have loved Swype for 2 years now and I am DONE. Tired of having to uninstall, reinstall, failed registrations, need to generate a license, uncheck swype, check swype, inability to download, and blah, blah, blah....Spent 2 hours over the past 2 days and STILL nothing. I can't even get it to download once the installer is in place. It just sits there. I know to uninstall everything, I have signed up for the beta with a new email, and so on and so on.....They need to get their act together. I cannot be the only one having issues.

I signed up to post on the forums and they were supposed to send an activation email.......Guess what never came?!?!?

I give up. I'm buying SlideIt. Do I like it as much. NO. Am I sick and tired of the BS with Swype. YES!

Is it just me? Am I losing my mind? Are others out there frustrated? I don't see many posts on the Swype forums recently, I wonder if no one is getting their activation emails.

Thanks for listening to me rant! :)

I gave up along time ago. I never understood how some phones come with swype, and some don't. And the ones that don't you have to sign up for the beta. Why not just a open beta? I love swype, but until there is an official release, ill use something else.

Yeah, it's just you.
The new code came out Friday 03/11/2011.
I uninstalled both the installer and the app and then reinstalled from scratch - voila - it's fine, now.

I'm glad Swype is built-into my LG Optimus S. It's WAY, WAY better than the stock Android keyboard... and not just the swiping part (which I often forget to do). I love the hold-to-actvate alternate-character function for each letter key. And I really love the easily accessible editing keyboard (the one with the arrow, select, & page up/down keys).

Beta-Swype started glitching a few weeks ago, and completely stopped working Tuesday last week and would not work no matter how many times I reinstalled it.

So it prompted me to finally update my phone because, thankfully, the latest Evo update comes with non-beta Swype. So now it's working again! The consequence though, is that I lost my earlier ROM and now I don't get the stellar battery life that I once had :(

Youre complaining about bugs in a beta release? To be fair they might as well open it up but still..

Its not that hard to just reinstall it takes about 1 minute. Shouldn't need a new code or anything.

I have a love/hate relationship with swype. I am still waiting for a way to directly edit the dictionary. Other than that, swype has been the best keyboard for my use.

In the spirit of this thread, I just updated yesterday and it seems that I lost the ability to tap an incorrect word to bring up a menu of choices to replace it with. Has anyone else seen this?

Version 2.29.71.20186.t100

Very frustrating :(.

Yes, I'm part of the beta. I haven't ever had any issues installing/updating Swype though. Last update (above) went without a hitch through the installer app.

Is it just me?
Do you really think you're the only one with any given opinion? It's definitely not just you. Though I personally haven't had as much trouble with it. It's a YMMV thing.

^ This. People seem to forget what beta means. Are people actually giving Swype feedback on the app or are they expecting Swype to read threads on these forum sites?

I'm over Swype for a lot of reasons...some of which you mentioned. The gingerbread keyboard suits my needs for now.

It's not just him/her. I gave up a month or so ago for very similar reasons. Lucky you for it going so easily. No assume the same is true for others.

Actually he/she is complaining about bugs in installation.

Apparently this feature was removed for users of gingerbread.

Just uninstalled Swype because:
1. Swype does not allow you to enter short cuts e.g. brb = be right back etc.

2. the lack of transparency with adding or deleting words from the dictionary is another drawback (password storage has been mentioned in other threads)

Just had a quick look at the 'Keypurr' layout. It looks a little odd.

Thankfully I found Ultra Keyboard today.
You can still swipe.
You have full control of the dictionary (so no more passwords sneaking their way in without you knowing)
And you can add shortcuts e.g. I type 'EMA' and my full EMail Address is pasted in.

Here's a video

All the apps I have currently are free, so this will be the first that I buy ($2.79)

For you guys that have phones that came with Swype, how are you updating it? I can't find anything about updating the app within the settings anywhere.

I am not going to bother with finding and installing a new swype on my eris because swype's memory footprint is 10MB. How much RAM does SlideIt consume?

I type faster with the stock Gingerbread keyboard and its autosuggestions than I ever could with Swype and having to hold my finger down over a bunch of keys.

I like smart keyboard pro and the custom skins for it and I also have SlideIt, expensive but worth it when you aren't typing with both hands. I got the latest Swype beta and it isn't that great as it once was.

Memory usage isn't that big of a deal anymore these days when you have 500MB or more ram, smart keyboard pro takes up 25MB on mine and SlideIt takes up 15MB. I haven't had any memory shortage issues since when I had the Motorola Quench (Cliq XT) and that 2.2 and up has better memory management (no need for task killers).

you have to be rooted and manually delete swype.apk from /system/app and libswypecore.so in /system/lib beforr you can install the latest beta. this method works on the atrix at least.

I tried to like Swype...I WANTED to like Swype. But I only lasted a few weeks before I was done with it.
And then I found my true love...SwiftKey. <3 LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!! It's different because it's based on word prediction rather than sliding but it's wonderful.

There's a free version & a paid version for $1.99 right now. Here's the free version...

I agree with the original post. I am also turned off on Swype.

I don't understand how a company can survive by not giving their customers what they want.

It must be a losing strategy.
