I agree with the original post. I am also turned off on Swype.

I don't understand how a company can survive by not giving their customers what they want.

It must be a losing strategy.

It is a beta that was conceived to help disabled people with keyboards.
You haven't paid a nickel for it.
And if you read the update notes you might have been pleasantly surprised.

They do give their customers what they want. Remember, you are not their customer. They don't sell to end-users. They sell to the handset manufacturers, who want a relatively inexpensive, sexy-looking bit of software they can include that sets their product apart from handsets that don't have it. Swype does that, and enough people like it better than the stock keyboard that the manufacturers are happy with it.
