Root I am soooo lost. ADB? SDK? MAX?

OK All I want to do is remove the junk apps on my phone.
Here is what I've done:
Flashed ZE14 kernel using sprint update
Thought I flashed Max's recovery, but it says it's still android 2.o recovery...not sure if that's right...
Downloaded SDK - Exctracted/Copied it to it's own directory and added the tools directory path to my environmet variables.

When I put my phone into recovery mode, connect the USB, and try to adb I get "device not found" at the crompt. The debugging is checked on the phone. Each time I plug the phone in my computer unsuccessfully tries to download the drivers.

Am I supposed to unmount the SD card before I start? I'm lost.

Somebody please help me figure out what I'm doing wrong???????

The page doesn't allow me to download it. It only gives me the option to buyHTC drivers..... Each of the terminal apps I try to download from market no longer exist.

My apologies...I found it....been workin at doin this for hours......maybe I need to step back a minute. Thank you for your assistancew
