I called Verizon and HTC about 2.1

Ok I know everyone you guys are sick of all the new threads but I just wanted a new thread so I can give you my experience with all of this.
I call verizon and I ask the girl that first answers if 2.1 is going to roll out on the HTC Droid eris anytime soon? She says let me check and looks through whatever she had and came back and said I do not see anything about it sir let me get you to Tech support and see if they can help you a little better.

She transfers me to tech support I talk to the guy and he initially cant find a think about it and said he has heard rumors but no official announcement that he has heard of about it..He looks through some stuff and he said ok well I see that we are going to be sending out an OTA in the next 2 weeks to the HTC Droid eris but it doesn't say that it is a firmware upgarde to 2.1 and I think it would if that was the case..So pretty much I am going to assume that is it because I doubt we will get some minor upgarde before 2.1. He then asks me if I want transfered to HTC to ask them.

He transfers me to HTC and the rep there says sir I can only tell you it will be released by Verizon before the end of the First Quarter. I said shouldn't you guys know a date atleast? Shouldn't you know before you do it? I have heard rumors and seen video of some people getting it already shouldn't you be aware of this? He said sir we have nothing to do with when Verizon releases the update so we will know when they do because the will tell us...

I know that doesn't clear much up but figured I would give my experience I had today.
 
yeah I don't know what else you were expecting...It isn't HTC we are waiting on. Sense with 2.1 is done. Verizon is testing it on their network and when its ready VERIZON will be the one that pushes it OTA.
 
Now im not trying to be a stick in the mud but first off they arent going to tell a regular joe schmo that walks in the door if they are going to release an update.. and secondly of course they know when they are going to release it but if it isnt posted on an official website such as i dont know HTC they are not going to tell you but good try
 
its like walking into BMW and saying hey i hear you got a new car coming out in the next few weeks? can i see it now, or can you confirm that..... they are going to look at you like you are stupid
 
no more 2.1 news . . . . for the love of bacon . . . . theres too much . . . . can't everyone just WAIT
 
People need to stop making phone calls, emails, and phone visits to VZW, HTC, and whoever the hell else they're after and then posting them on here. The first part is fine, but it was a novelty a month or two ago. We all did it and posted it. No one gives crap now. We've all been BS'd by members (guilty), blogs, and representatives for all companies about when it will be out. It really does get old, something I just only realized.

It is fun and exciting, but these threads really take the fun out of it for most of us trying to explain what's going on a million times. I feel this post belongs in so many threads, but f'it, no one listens. I swear, this place is useful until root comes out, and then we just get the hell out of here and never deal with redundant questions again.
 
I'm right there with you, I'm just about ready to stop coming by these forums until it releases. I used to be able to come here and find out all kinds of fascinating and new things about my phone. Now, almost all day every day I see the same regurgitated garbage over and over again.

After all these 2.1 threads (which there has been ONE designated thread that STICKIED so you can't miss it!!!), we are STILL right where we were months ago: sometime in the Q1 2010. And for those that insist on pursuing things further by continually calling Verizon and/or HTC, Q1 ends March 31st. So until that date passes, they are still holding to what they said.

We are not owed anything. We have a great phone, and they are providing a great upgrade FREE OF CHARGE. They didn't have to even attempt to do this. Yet, like so many other people in this country, for some reason a lot of Eris owners feel they are "entitled" to this update. You aren't entitled to anything. You bought the phone as advertised with Android 1.5. If you want 2.X so bad, you should have bought a phone that was advertised with Android 2.X. With all the sense of entitlement in just about every facet of life these days, it's no wonder this country is in such a mess.

I did that once in a Pontiac dealership many years ago. I had read a really interesting article about an upcoming car and wanted more information. Turns out I knew more about the car than anyone in the dealership.

As for 2.1, I'll get it when I get it. I'm not holding my breath.

Oh man, been there. Guy went from " I think production starts in September of this year" to "maybe this summer" to "oh, good news, it's this may" to "we'll build it right now!" in a matter of 15 minutes. It's a good thng we try to do the research or else we'd be getting boned daily.
 
YOU know what? I am so sick and tired of the 2.1 hype.

I don't want 2.1 any more!!!

The thing about all these threads about 2.1 or root is the same people (INCLUDING ME) go to them and read them!!! then we say not another thread on 2.1 or a root question...check the names on this threads...their the same names over and over and over again...when 2.1 and root is old news and the next big thing for the eris is on the horizon it will once again be the same threads with the same questions and the same names complaining...just my observation :eek:
 
i think im going to call verizon today to see if they have something different to say. then i`ll talk to HTC. since im bored i`ll call the FCC and see if i can get something from them. im not stopping there cause i REALLY want 2.1. so i`ll call the FBI to see what they say. Since HTC is overseas...i`ll call the KGB and tell them to speak with the Taiwanese authority to try to put some pressure on HTC!
we cant let up people!!

Well, along the same lines, I called tech support because I did a factory reset of my eris and couldn't get it reactivated so I thought what the hell I will ask about 2.1. So I asked the tech, any word on the 2.1 update and he said "well they told us the 23rd but then came back and said nevermind, scratch that date sooo... take it for what it's worth
 
I dont think Verizon, HTC or Google cares whether we get the 2.1 Update or not... They are more concerned about the new phones coming to verizon in the near future.
