I cannot download from the Android Market or sign out of Google!

I switched to iPhone over 3 years ago and now I want to get all my data off this old HTC Dream.

I'm trying to install SMS Backup & Restore from the Android Market but it keeps saying "Download was unsuccessful, please try again."

Also, how can I log out of my Google account? I've looked high and low and for the life of me, can't figure it out.
 
Sounds like a G1/Dream. It was the "original" Android phone.
Is there a reason you're trying to get data off of it; to sell or just save?
 
Can you install other apps? Just wondering whether the problem is this app or more general.

What Android version are you running (Settings > About to find out)? Bread's guess that the app may not be compatible with the OS may well be right, but there are many SMS backup apps, and some others may work with it. But I'd not expect you to be able to see the app in the Play Store if that were the problem, so wonder whether it might be something else. Hence the question about whether you can download any apps.

If you can't, maybe try clearing data for the Play Store app (which is probably Android Market on your phone). You'll have to log in to it again, but that might fix a problem. Also clearing the phone's cache might help if you have a general downloading problem.

Edit: There are several apps called SMS Backup & Restore. The one I've used says it's compatible with Android 1.5 upwards, so if you've been trying a different one it might be worth looking at this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.riteshsahu.SMSBackupRestore
