Help I can't believe it! No contact search functionnality built in

Hi all,

I got a Samsung Galaxy 9000, first android for me and I have upgraded it to Froyo.
It synced with my gmail and I ended up with hundreds of contacts.
I realized that there is no contact search funcitonnality. When I call I click on the phone icon and I have to scroll through all the contacts (even if there is a quick access link to the first letters. That sucks, even the most stupid phone have it and I am really frustrated.
Is that me or is it Froyo? Is there an app that solves that.

Thanks for your home

There's a search contact function in my contacts list right on top of the list. Have no clue why you don't have one.

I don't see why you should need one in the dialer if your going to call someone from your contacts.

What firmware version do you have? As I said, I have upgraded to Froyo and I wonder if it is not the reason.

there, you have a space at the top most which indicates search contacts. i have froyo 2.2.1

I have 2.2 UGJL2

Instead of the search box, I have a create contact button. There is nothing in the settings that could help restore to the same kind of menu as yours. Thanks a lot for helping. I will keep trying.

Cheers

Actually, instead of the search box (as shown in GG1 post) I have an "ADD contacts" field.

In the meantime, you can always use the Google search bar to search your contacts.

Actually mine is like the one in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uYd7WUPY20E (at 0:08) you can see that in the contacts there isn't any search function but an "Add contact" field.
However I keep using the search with the dialer (as in the video)

Thank you all for your remarks, suggestions. Very much appreciated.

I'm on 2.2 and there is search, but was wondering if you are in the contacts screen and keep holding the Menu button do you get a search box to search contacts?

You can also download Google Gesture Search. Very cool! First thing I did when I downloaded was turn on "Activate with Motion" under Settings. Now I just tilt my phone to the right and I can write the contact name on the full screen with my finger! Gesture Search will match partial names, etc.

Check it out: Gesture Search Home
