Help I can't make a partition on internal memory

justsyr

Lurker
Got a Tab10DUALC Sunstech tablet (RK3066 chip, 8 GB Flash NAND).
As I started to install some apps it quickly became out of space, checking storage settings I found out that internal storage was about 1gb full and Nand flash 5.26gb free.
So I started to search how to root it and after a lot of trials and errors I got to flash CWM and root it.
Now, I wanted to make a partition out of that 5gb non used space but when I tried that with CWM recovery (advanced, partition) despite having doing it correctly, when the tab restarted it all reseted back to the way it was, this is, no ext2 or whatever.
I've tried just about everything, Link2SD tells me there's no SD CARD 2nd Part. I went to recovery and mounted USB and tried partition it with Mini Tool Partition Wizard and while succeed, when restarting, the tab reported bad SD so made me reformat (Link2SD reported unmountable 2nd Part) so it all came back to the way before, no partition.
Could it be some safe measure or something that doesn't allow me to get this partitioned? I've tried just about everything and can't come up with any other ideas. I mean, I don't want to use my only mini SD card if I can help it, I just don't understand why I can't use that extra 5gb while running out of space on the internal memory.
I also tried moving a few apps to SD and got all kind of errors like not loading.
Thanks for any help.

How did you try moving the apps to SD? You can't just use a file browser.

As for partitioning I'm sure all those utilities like Link2SD are designed for a partition on the physical sd card, not yet another partition on the emulated one. In fact that arrangement of having a separate apps area and an "internal card" was deprecated when Android 4.0 came out. Unfortunately 4 years later some budget Chinese manufacturers are still doing it, no idea why.

If there is a enough of a development community for your device I'd wonder whether anyone has managed to update the storage to the normal Android 4 onward model (where apps and media share the same space, rather than the silly internal partitioning)?

If not I would just give up, use a decent sized sd card and add a second partition to that. It's clear that just trying to partition the internal storage further isn't working, and TBH I'm more surprised that CWM recovery even offered to try than I am that it didn't work (I've seen ext partitions made with Minitool not be recognised plenty of times, so have little faith in that thing).

Ah, I see now. Well this is 4.1.1. There's no roms around I could find so I guess I'll just have to deal with what I have but is not a real problem for the use I give to the tablet.

Now I've followed every tutorial on how to make a partition to use with Link2SD but I can't find a way to mount the second partition. With MiniTool I did everything as asked: Fat32, primary, make it active, etc. Same with second: primary, tried ext2, ext4, fat32 but when I open Link2SD storage info reports "SD Card 2nd Part. Not mounted." so every time I try to recreate mount scripts I get an error "mount script cannot be created".

I've tried it on CWM but it's just the same, it doesn't get mounted; tried mount sd-ex on CWM but I get error "can't mount"

So, back to square 1.
