Help I dropped my Note 2 into a canal. Any point in trying to get it back now?

Hi

I dropped my Note 2 into a canal 7 days ago. Is there any point in retrieving it?
e.g. Will the SD memory card still work?

The insurance company have deactivated the IMEI number in any case, so the phone itself isn't much use. But I am hoping to get some of the data back. It is about 6 feet down in the bottom of cold water. I did dive in after it and spent about 10 minutes freezing my butt off but there was lots of other rubbish at the bottom of the canal and I never managed to find the phone itself (although I did find the flip case - but that would come off quite easily in any case)

Any thoughts?

Nahhh its not any good it's super soaked and it wont ever work. Just take the lost get a new device and do everyone a big favor stay away from any canals manholes etc.

Yeah, its a goner. Most phones are gone after a few seconds in water. The SD card however maybe recoverable. I've heard of them accidentally being left in shorts and put in the washing machine and still working.

Ah-ha so the SD card may yet work?? I'd better try and recover the darned thing then... :^/

Feel free to take the chance but no one from this forums will take the responsibility or blaming for anything that happens to you or the device your recovering from the canal.

Maybe he's had a bad experience with jumping into a canal full of rubbish! OP needs to take care!

Anyway, I once put an sd card and a usb stick through a full wash cycle with some clothes and both worked afterwards! - didn't loose any data either. There is no hope for the phone though..

Sadly although I spent about an hour with a long leaf rake and net there was no sign of my phone at that bottom of the canal.

On the up-side the replacement phone arrived today. Any thoughts about where the best place to sell the thing would be?

Swappa is a great place to sell phones

Swappa not brilliant in the UK. None of these sites offer more than c. GBP 250 for a phone that my Three store charged me GBP650 !

I think I'll try for a private sale.

Welcome to the world of retail.
Always sell your old stuff yourself.
I got 15 dollars (6gbp about) for a verizon cdma flip phone without sd card slot or cammera but it was in mint condition. 2 months ago.
