I gave it six honest months

Back in May I purchased an N7. Today I put up for sale along with an iPad 1.

I'm planning on getting an iPad Mini, 4g.

The N7, that I used almost daily was lots slower than my iPad 1. I always wondered if the N7 was going to croak with is flickering screen and slow to respond apps. One of the apps I used for work on other machines (Navionics) was not supported on the N7.

Most of my experience is subjective, Brand X just seems to have a smoother interface that is more reliable.

I also need the ability to port info to a projector.

Google, I gave you an honest shoot.

Post #4. Welcome to the Forum.

Glad to see you at least gave it an effort. Not everyone is meant to have an android device.

I know there is a lack of support for exporting to a Projector. However, this issue with screen flickering and apps not responding sounds pretty device specific. You probably should of performed a factory reset or something to see if it fixed that, because not everyone is having those issues.

Guys, I see we've gotten a bit off-topic and strayed from giving constructive and useful posts (please see our Site Rules/Guidelines).

I've deleted a few posts up above that were no in the spirit of what we're all about here at AF (a welcoming and friendly place to hang-out :)).

Thanks for your understanding and cooperation.

P.S., the linked Wiki page indicates that the N7 was announced on July 27th at the Google I/O Developers Conference and made available for pre-order the same day. That meshes with the when I ordered mine (actually received it on July 7th). So, let's give the member the benefit of a few weeks time difference, okay? :)

There were a lot of problems with the nexus 7 when it came out but slow was not one of them. This tablet is very very fast.

As digital controller mentioned, Android isn't for everyone.

I know that in my line of work it would be useful for me to use iOS but I truly prefer Android. I know others who prefer Android who use iOS strictly so they have less to carry around. Likewise, there are plenty who prefer iOS.

No harm, no foul. To each their own. I like having options and Android/iOS allows that.

Hopefully we see you around the forums still (perhaps with another device in the future?)! :)

I have an iPad 1 and the Nexus is a faster device when doing the same things, especially web browsing where the iPad 1 can drag to a crawl. However, the larger App library compensates for that to a degree as the Apps are a lot more efficient than going to the equivalent websites. The iPad 1 is fine for email, watching movies, getting the weather but it's a bit unbearable on things like news websites.

Have a feeling he may have had a lemon and FYI the iPad mini's 1024 x 768 resolution is going to get fuzzy on the small type. I have the iPad 1 and it rests under a pile of mail and my bagels. My N7 8gb is down to just over 500 megs free and it still is smoking fast and completely unmodified from factory other than ALL the updates Google sends to it. My only complaint is the lack of voice recognition edit abilities in Yahoo mail like it has in Google Mail.

I thought that the voice recognition works anywhere where you can do alphanumeric input. I removed the Yahoo Email app a while ago and was planning on adding it to the Android email application so that I could use an consolidated inbox but I haven't gotten around to it.

The slowness and flickering makes me think your N7 may have had some issues, but the apps and projector issue probably makes it a non starter anyway. I certainly can't fault you for giving it a more than fair trial. Best of luck with the ipad!!!

Voice works but you do not get the correction drop down list when you try to correct something it heard wrong like you do in Google mail and a couple of other apps. The fine print really makes it difficult to position the cursor next to a letter or word with your finger ... No arrow keys! It's so easy with arrow keys! Usually I get the cursor exactly where I want it and then as I lift my finger off the screen it moves. Or even worse it zooms out then in then out then hides the keyboard!

Got an iPad Mini when in came out after being stuck with 5 different defective N7s. I like the Mini and am using it now, but it isn't as "fun" as the N7. When I was bored I could go flash a new mod, rom, or kernel. The Mini is flawless in everything, but very bland. I'll keep the Mini until next year when a new Nexus tab comes out. The N7 is a "hackers" tablet and I think that was the OP's problem. He was looking for something flawless in OS and experience, and that isn't the N7.

Horses for courses but it does sound like you have a faulty N7. All the reviews I have read in the UK and pod-casts rate the N7 above the mini.
