I gave up social media.

You're crazy, you need facebook for 3rd party services
Nope, not me. I have no need for FB whatsoever, and--now that I really think about it--the LAST place I'd want to know all the accounts I log in to is FB. Whoa...just thinking about their privacy breaches and other stuff, then multiplying that by a bunch of other, unrelated accounts, makes my head spin.

or else you have to have a million other accounts.
That's fine with me--and it's worked for 20+ years. I'd rather have a million separate and unknown to each other accounts than give the biggest privacy breaching offender in the world knowledge about all my accounts! :D

If you see a lot of negativity on Facebook, it's probably because A) You're a negative person or B) You choose to associate with negative people :P

I don't forsee myself giving up social media. I'm smart about what I make public, and I'm not the type that wears a tin foil hat.

There seems to be a trend of feeling morally superior for hating social media. That's cool, if you don't like it, don't use it.

My main benefit with using FB is that I can easily communicate with people who are far away from me physically. Many of these people are on the other side of the globe.

Your crazy, you need facebook for 3rd party services, or else you have to have a million other accounts. That's all FB is for me. Just an account for logging into other websites. Google Plus and the AF are the social media sites I visit the most often.

Lastpass...

...works with pretty much anything that requires a login name and password, and not just Facebook affiliates, plus it's probably a heck of a lot more secure and private. After all, we can't use FB to login to Android Forums AFAIK. ;)

I have Google+ but I don't use it that often. I'll flit in, +1 some stuff, and that's about it, maybe once a day.

What's pissing me off about social media - too many people tell too much, and it's becoming the norm, so now psychologists are after those of us who choose not to do so. There's something wrong with us.

I was brought up to mind my own business and in reverse, keep mine to myself. I think that's the 8th deadly sin today.
TOO BAD!!!

I have made anything private, and am waiting for an "eff off" button for friend requests from general people.

According to one post I read earlier this year - we are potential terrorists.

That's crazy. Some people still value their privacy. It's really none of anyone's business what we choose to share and not share. I just hate when people generalize those. Next thing they'll start arresting people. It's like how they generalize how to determine when someone's guilty and telling a lie, when most people would be nervous when interrogated by the police.

I know you aren't specifically talking about me, but I had not heard this before. I certainly don't pretend to be better or worse than other people because I don't have any social media accounts anymore.

However, I know I am not able to moderate my use to a level that is acceptable to me. I'm extreme in most things I do. Therefore since I don't have any close friends in other countries that I just can't text or call, it's lost the value it had.

I can understand that for sure. I had to give up reddit for the same reason.

But yes, there is often an air about people when they say they won't use social media or that they've left it that is almost insulting to those who still do use it. Kind of an 'Oh, you eat at McDonalds?'

They are looking at all the news - some places ban, and some places OK your boss asking for your facebook login. Or if you don't have a page, you aren't hired since no one can check on your social tendencies.

Your "friends" can ruin your credit rating. (I mean those that friend for quantity)

Law enforcement trolls and can entrap.

Social Media misused has driven kids to suicide.

Those that don't use are feeling secure, but probably use all the other goodies on the smart phones or follow other fashion not giving a damn about child labor or working conditions in other countries.

They are just as bad as those who use social media with all the hype.

There probably are more millions who do pay attention to the TOS and check their settings before using. For them, it's a convenience and we shouldn't be too much in either camp, either berating non or casual users for not telling all, or feeling so damn smug since they don't use it.

I like Facebook, I use it often. I have a G+ account but never use it much. I don't care for Twitter (doesn't make much sense to me). I use LinkedIn for my business as well as Facebook.
I will continue to use Social Media for personal and professional purposes because I embrace social media.

Some of this I've heard of. I know I would never give my login information or password to any potential employer. I will forgo that possible job, and look elsewhere.

I'm not trying to condemn those who love social media nor am I condoning those who have made the decision I have (I am not saying anyone here accused me of saying that). We all can and will make our own choices. We can agree to disagree, just like politics, religion, sports, etc. What works for me may not for you and vice versa. What's important is to know our own selves well enough to make tough choices which is exactly what I did.

I value all your feedback. Feel free to continue :)
