Help I got a problem. Kies

I know it's many threads about this theme before, but i can't find any who tells me to solve my problem.

I got a Samsung Galaxy S for about to or three months ago, but i have never downloaded Kies before today. The reason why i dowloaded it is because the new android patch came. (2.2). But i have now installed kies, but when i tried to connected the samsung, kies could not detect my samsung. The samsung started to run "kies mod", but kies could not find it. My pc made the BEEB sound, that tells me a USB is connected. But, still.

not much background info, so i'd start by covering the basics. Is your phone setup in "Samsung Kies" USB mode? Goto Settings -> About phone -> USB settings to verify

I know it's not much information to go on. but i don't know more to say.
ask me if it is something you would like to know.
And i have done this.
Settings - about the phone - USB settings - samsung kies.
i have done that, and it does still not work

Kies has now detected the phone. but now; my samsung has dowloaded android 2.2 in two hours now, and its not finished

so how did you manage to fix the problem? I'm having the exact same problem. Every time i plug my phone in windows would display USB not recognized. I've tried reinstalling Kies, uninstalling the port in device manager and restarting multiple times. Any ideas?
