Root I got a scare!

So I decided to make another backup this morning before messing with installing ROMs again. After booting my phone into HBOOT, and selecting recovery, my phone got stuck on the white screen that says "htc." It was there for a good 15 minutes. I panicked and pulled the battery. After that it booted into the stock rooted ROM and all was well. I then was able to get to HBOOT, and then recovery like before. I thought I had some real trouble coming.

Last night I flashed CM7. It was kind of buggy... there were some crashes in the settings menu, some apps crashed/forced closed, and it wouldn't load the two widgets on the home screen. I just restored a previous backup and all was well.

Could this be related? I'd really like to try installing CM7 again, or maybe another AOSP ROM. Has anyone got around to extracting a ROM from the new Gingerbread RUU leak from 9/24? I guess that's the coming OTA.

Which CM7? There is a new one. RC 1.7 was kind of iffy sometimes from what I have heard.

What recovery are you using? I know TWRP has a bug that sometimes will cause you to stick at the splash screen. I haven't heard of the same bug affecting the other recoveries.

I was using the ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.1 flashed with the Revolutionary tool. That's literally all I have done to my phone besides doing some backups. I have since (today) booted to recovery a number of times and backed up again with no problems. Confused.

Oh and I flashed the leaked radios

CDMA: 1.48.00.0906w_1
LTE: 0.01.78.0906w_2

Weird, the radios shouldn't have caused that issue. Like I said it is a known issue with TWRP perhaps it is also an issue with the newer versions of CWM? I wouldn't let it stress you too much, as you pointed out you were able to pull the battery and get back into recovery. I would guess about 5% of the times I boot into recovery it hangs on the boot screen using TWRP, it is just more of a PITA than anything else.

If I get time tonight maybe I'll try to flash the same CM7 ROM and this time document the problems more properly (if they still exist). So much can go wrong with this stuff.

Based on the issues you doucmented with CM it looks like you may need to wipe fully. Before you flash you should do a factory reset in recovery, wipe cache, wipe dalvik cache (under advanced) and /system (under mounts and storage) then reflash.

Hmmmmm... I did all of that before flashing the CM7 ROM. I followed the instructions to a T. I didn't get a chance to try it again last night. Next time I'll clear it twice before I flash and see if that helps. Thanks for your suggestion.

Multiple wipes are not needed. Did you flash gapps at the same time or did you boot then flash gapps?
