I hate Google pestering me

Obviously, I don't look at the forum you do use it in, that's why I haven't seen it.
It probably is NoScript. Love that app.

I'm also geared to the printed word. If any text appears in blue, I ignore it. People use Adblock and NoScript since a lot of dodgy sites have crap pop up when you accidentally roll over the link.

We have the option to not use our sigs.

NoScript has nothing to do with that.

You can't see my sig in this thread because I suppressed it here.

Not because you did. :)

zuben, there's a choice when you're submitting a post to show/not show your sig:

Never looked that far down the page. I usually only make sure I haven't missed privacy policy and TOS. I usually run the browser minimized. I read and move on.

I belong to a few fora where the posts and stuff after the article are:
Lovely,
Adorable,
Ditto,
Me, too.

Once you see idiot posts like that, you don't bother looking.

Ad revenue here, along with premium subscriptions, pay for the servers and make your posts possible.

It's great you want to leave the reservation and all, we've even tried to help you here, but please don't regale us with what constitutes idiotic posts.

Thanks! :)

That's not on this forum. It's mostly quilting and other craft groups/blogs the older pussies belong to. Since I craft and have questions I read some and if you want to print out instructions given they take up 20 pages. 2 pages of instruction and 18 pages of drivel. So you quit reading after the last paragraph. Turns into a habit.

The ladies, female, women, whatever you like who post here have brains and know what said brains are for!

I'm not against ads per se. I do NOT like assumed demographics. They annoy me no end. I simply got tired of the whole stereotyping. If I wanted an oil filter for my Spitfire, some clerk would assume I didn't know what an oil filter was!

Don't try to sell me jewelry, makeup, high fashion anything, I'm not interested. Yet all that goes with the female demographic. Why can't I see an ad for a new DSLR, or lens? Even if I listed photography, I'd get simple point and shoot ads! How about a sport truck instead of a luxury car? If it was a phone, someone would probably have a blurb in there about how easy it is to post on Facebook! I worked with demographics and see how they average out.

B&H Camera, Adorama Camera in NY, Orion all sell stuff I'm interested in. So to support them, I get their newsletters. I never see ads for that type of store. When I see a form that includes genderless, maybe I'll support it.

I'm not the only one annoyed. This might be tongue in cheek but it's taking half the fun out of life. The real tinfoil hats are totally upset with "smart meters"

All of this stuff sounds good on paper. What people are failing to see, in my opinion,
is the real outcome. If it came to "rationing" or services according to your needs, either some with money or some with tech knowledge will abuse the system. Then everyone pays. Just look at the MPAA and RIAA. Those who wouldn't dream of piracy are getting punished as well. That new TPP treaty might block unlocking or rooting cell phones.

I just stumbled across this website and thought of this thread.
It's a Microsoft (Bing) run site slamming Google and their privacy practices.
Don't Get Scroogled! - Scroogled

Don't forget to check out their store for anti-Google fashion.

Guess Bill Gates will do anything to try and increase market share.

Bill Gates doesn't control the day to day operations of Microsoft, and hasn't for quite some time.

Trading Google for Microsoft wouldn't be any better. Yahoo scans through your emails as well.

The shirt is funny. It reminds me of those "I'm a Mac, I'm a PC" ads. They made me giggle, but sure didn't inspire me to run out and buy either system.

Like MS doesn't snoop. MS included some extension in FX once, I don't think they cleared it with Mozilla. I'm thinking it could have been Silverlight? Big stink in some forums about it. MS wants to know everything your computer is doing. Apple has been accused of some shady practices, too, so they all do it.

Might as well get a good laugh out of it.

Isn't much about the mail scanning per se, but it's collecting addresses that annoys me.
What if you do have a friend that really goes out of the way to keep things private, and now one of the OS has his email addy to sell or pester without his permission. If he uses Hotmail, he didn't sign any TOS with Gmail. If both parties use the same service, then neither should have a complaint. But if one party doesn't, I think a gripe is legitimate.

I'm waiting for Startmail. I'd just as soon pay for it like the paid apps. No ads.
