Root I have a brick.

Help! Did a nand restore after a the XDA OTA update, and root and my DrInc won't boot! Tried doing a downgrade and it fails. Says Main Version is older. I have no idea what to do.
 
adrynalyne helped me work through this so all is well again. I will be thanking him every time I see his name!
 
This should be a good example and warning to all the people that are treading in unfamiliar waters. leaked software is NOT something to be messed around with. go through ALL the forums and make sure you read ABSOLUTELY EVERY THREAD RELATED TO WHAT YOU ARE ABOUT TO DOWNLOAD AND INSTALL, ESPECIALLY AN UNOFFICIAL OTA THAT UPDATES YOUR RADIO AND HBOOT! otherwise you will end up with a brick. This isnt just "opening admin permissions"...and these forums all may seem filled with a bunch of super nerds that can make anything happen, but they cant. if something seems even remotely sketchy for you to do yourself, if you feel nervous about it at all, DONT DO IT. simple as that.
 
Be nice. Not everyone wants to be super geek and be Macgyver with their phones. Thats why this forum is here to help. The issue that prevented fixing the OP's problem was a minor one and could have happened to anyone (and probably has). The role I played in fixing it was minor, and the OP did all the work and got the job done.

AS long as you know the risks, lack of experience shouldn't be a deciding factor on whether you get to play with the toys, or take your ball and go home.

I've got a decent amount of experience working with Linux (granted it was about 6 years ago, but the commands are the same) as well as a good general computing background. Even so, I've no experience hacking phones or small self-contained hardware, even if they are practically the same as a micro-sized PC running *nix. That said, precaution is my #1 thing (I'm active military, on call 24/7, and if I lose my phone, I'm screwed... in multiple fashions). lolz. This LOTA/OTF update worries me too much to risk it.

Adrynalyne, I know I'm newish to the forums (lurker + slowly picking the pace up on posts), but I really like your attitude on the forums. You're knowledgeable and actually nice about trying to help people out. It's something I strive to reach at some point. :)

I think there are two different perceptions on these kind of situations that lead to posts like mb01's. The first comes when you've tried to help people and you get tired of the redundancy of posts over the same topic, because people don't actively search and read up on things prior to doing them. The second comes from impatience stemmed from certain individuals being more capable of understanding what they're doing faster than others, whether it be from previous experience with similar systems, or just a better knack at computer jabber. lolz.

I think this post comes in after reading another thread wherein the person was trying to find out how to remove files after rooting, but (s)he is a Mac user, and didn't have any terminal experience at all. So seeing this thread immediately after the last one made me think. *shrug*

Mine has also just bricked. Installed the clockworkmod update and cannot get past the white HTC boot screen. Can't even get into clockworkmod. Any advice?
 
Pull the battery, put it back in, hold DOWN volume, and then power it up. It will go into HBOOT. You can then follow the rest of these instructions.
 
How can I use the tool to install clockworkmod from HBOOT? That's as far as I can get. When I try to go into recovery it hangs up there at the white HTC screen as well.
 
I'm not actually sure what happened. I installed a newer version of clockworkmod (my guess) about 30 mins prior along with the new SkyRaider update. My phone started to go into a reboot loop without me touching it and then it just failed to boot into android. I'm hoping I can get a PB31IMG to auto install because I noticed it has a version of recovery included.

I formatted a card to fat32 and it gets hung at 'checking...' after it unzips it... sigh

edit: I didn't install the OTA
 
Let me know, we can compare md5 hashes.

I'm concerned about the unrevoked 3.x version of tools, this will be the third case I've heard of a bricked phone after running it.

One other case, the phone wouldnt even power up anymore.
The second, the partitions were completely hosed. Or so was reported.
