Hello,

I have a Nokia 3.1 phone running Android 8.1. I recently downloaded the Norton mobile security app from the Play Store. The Norton app said that my phone was not totally secure because I did not have a swipe or password or pin lock to lock my screen, and that thieves could steal valuable information like bank account numbers. So I entered a pin. The problem is, that it is kind of annoying to have to enter that pin every time that I bring up my screen. So my question is: Is screen lock really necessary?

Thank you

i don't think it is.......for me. it depends on how secure you want your phone. i have a fingerprint reader. the unfortunate things is that i want it mainly for my banking app. but in order to use that feature for the app you have to turn on the feature for the entire phone. before finger print reader i just had my lock screen set to swipe to unlock.

so it is up to you how decide. is your phone safe if it is just laying around out in the open?

So my question is: Is screen lock really necessary?
If you're 100% sure that your phone is immune to anyone else trying to get into it, then, no, it's not necessary. But do you take it with you when you leave your house? There goes that 100% thing! :o

Have you thought about using Smart Lock? That's what I do. It lets your device stay unlocked under user-defined criteria; for me, it's when I'm at home. If you're not familiar with it, you can find it in your system settings. On my 8.0.0 phone:

Settings | Security & Location | Smart Lock | [enter your PIN] |

Then you're given various conditions which you set up to keep it unlocked under. Your path may vary slightly, but you should be able to find it.

You'll still occasionally be prompted for your PIN, but that depends on certain circumstances.
