I have a quick question?

I need help troubleshooting a RCA tablet. I've been searching on here as to what area to post to, but I'm just not sure. Can someone help me? My tablet quit working yesterday, and I'm trying to do some troubleshooting before I try to get RCA on the phone. I have already emailed them, but no reply yet. It is a RCA RCT6691W3 9" Dual Tablet. I cannot get it to power on at all.

Thanks for your time!

We don't have a specific forum for that model tablet, so we can do some general troubleshooting that may or may not work.

First, are you sure it's charged? The most common reason a device won't startup is a dead battery. It's not unusual to see a cable go bad or charger fail. If you plug it in and there's no indication it's charging, try a different cable or charger. It's possible the USB connection has broken, but that would require a warranty repair.

If you think it is charged, at least well enough to boot, then we might try pressing and holding the power button for 30+ seconds. Many devices will force a reboot with a very long press of the power button.

You could also try pressing and holding a combination of the power and volume buttons.

Give those a try and let us know how you make out.

It should, but it might take much longer. Some tablets will come with a charge that supplies 2A current while most USB ports only supply .5A. Depending on the tablet, .5A might not be enough to charge while it's on, but if it's off, it could trickle charge but might take many hours.

While it was working, were there any visual cues that it was getting power? An LED or a battery icon? If it's got nothing to indicate charge, leave it plugged in for 10 or 15 minutes and see if it feels a little warmer.

You don't need to charge it to full, just enough to get it to power on.

I have it plugged in with a usb connected to my computer. It's been plugged in now for over 3 1/2 hours and it still will not power up. I really thought when I turned it off that it said approx. 60 percent battery was left, but I could be wrong. So would my best bet be to just try and find a replacement charger? Hopefully someplace like RadioShack or Staples will carry one. That's about all the stores we have around here other that Target or Walmart.

Most universal USB chargers deliver 1A current. They might be slower. What you want to do is find out the spec's on the original charger and find one with similar specs.

That said, it could be the battery just died and won't charge period. If that's the case, a new charger won't help. Is this unit a sealed system, or can you remove the battery?

It could also be something completely unrelated. If a different component has failed, there won't be an easy way to self-diagnose. After you have done the obvious things, then you should really consider a warranty call before spending anything.

Hi-- your particular tablet will not charge thru the micro usb port. It has a separate charging port with a small round connection (don't know the technical name for this port type). You have to either use the charger that came with the tablet, or get a cable with the round connection on one end and normal usb on the other to charge it from a computer or a usb charger.

From what I can see, many RCA tablets have a discreet charging port and won't charge through the USB port.
