I have a Samsung Galaxy Prevail model sph-m820 that I got used from a store (no returns on used phones). About an half hour after I got it and my phone number was pluged into it. The phone started acting funky. It took for an ever and a wed to turn on, almost 3 minutes to change screens. Example let's say I click on the calendar from the main menu. The phone goes so slow in changing screens a snail can beat it. I just took the battery out of it because that was still good and throwed the phone in my junk parts box and got a lg-102 phone. I needed a working phone and that's all I could afford right now. Just on a wim after the sph-m820 sat in the junk box with the battery out for about 2 weeks. I put the battery back in and now it works 100% ok. Question is. What happened to it? And is it going to stay running ok or will it start acting up again after a wile? The phone has seen a hard live and has scratches on the screen. I have a running beef with that store. The ZTE n860 I got from there crashed (stopped making/receiving calls) about a week after I got it. Boost Mobile is stepping in. I am not the only one that filed a complaint against him.http://androidforums.com/samsung-galaxy-prevail/

You can try resetting the phone back to factory and it should get rid of any problems that you might've inherited from the previous owner/user. You can also do an Odin flash or just flash the latest version of CTMod and that should completely give the phone a new brain.

The Prevail is a great phone... You just have to get used to it. I love mine.

Sometimes, a battery pull like what you did fixes the issues you described. I have many devices and the battery pull is one of the first troubleshooting steps I do or recommend.

Now, as kolosus said, root that Prevail and enjoy it. It will feel like a different phone.

About 2 days after I put the battery back in the Samsung phone. The phone went back to the funky way it was. I work on 2 way radios. When I see something like this happening, it means a part is having temperature problems. In it breaks down when it gets warm from power going through it. If I had a full work bench with the right tools, test equipment and the phones wiring diagram (witch I don't have) I could fix the phone. The ZTE phone I had was my 1st android type phone. An interesting change from the Sanyo Incognito scp6760 that I had for a long time. 2 reasons I up graded 1 I couldn't see the display on the Sanyo in the day time outside. 2 internet was limited by screen size.

I tryed to do the Odin flash. I followed the instructions. Installed the driver, I put the Prevail in the download mode then plugged in the usb cable. The "downloading" does show up on the screen. But the laptop doesn't see the phone. I tested the usb cable on a different Samsung phone and the cable is ok. I even tried a different cable. The 2nd cable is ok.

try deleting the drivers and reinstall them and try again.
