Root i have root access!

I installed the overclock widget to bring the processor down a bit and keep it low when the screen is off. this is the results from linpack. First one is with the max cpu set at max, and the second is with cpu all the way down.

With Max set to 1,000,000:
MFLOPS: 13.759
Time: 6.09
Norm Res: 5.68
Precision: 2.220446049250313E-16

With Max set to 100,000:
MFLOPS: 0.833
Time: 100.68
Norm Res: 5.68
Precision: Inaccurate Result

When I set it to minimum and pressed save, that second I was thinking OH NO, Please don't make the phone so slow it stops working and the app loads on boot. But the phone was still usable, extreamly slow but I was able to navigate. I would swipe for the next screen and have to wait a few seconds. ROFL.
awesome..

You guys may want to install some sort of virus detection app on your phones. Word is spreading of about 50 apps found in the android market with an android virus.

apps were copy of real app just with a virus injected in them. If you see any apps that come up with the same name/icon but different developers be careful. Especially since the SU we are using doesn't prompt for permission when an app asks for root.

Still doesn't feel like root....I don't have that warm and fuzzy you know....
I still want to try lightnings kernel and samsung definately has some sort of lockdown on this thing

I thank you guys! but I think I will wait on rjsweesy to get that warm and fuzzy feeling... And as a future software engineer I really appreciate the free knowledge.

when i restart i have to reinstall busybox app to the bin folder to regain rw on the system drive
yet i still have su for apps and whatever else im doing

are you saying something is automatically deleting busybox every time on startup?
no its not deleting busybox just taking away rw on system drive, almost like a temp...busybox is stillunstalled but if i want rw to stick i have to rerun the bb app i downloaded from the market

everything still has su access though, just not rw

reboot and tell me what happens, delete something with root explorer after you reboot, i bet it comes right back

yeah i think ill wait until we have a definate root like the old one z4root. all i really want is to turn my phone into a wifi hotspot

I tweaked my cpu with setcpu to max speed of 800 mhz, and its still running smooth. I notice a substantial battery life improvement. What virus program would you recommend btw? One that hopefully doesn't drain the crap out of the battery when left open either lol.

after the removal, i try barnacle wifi tether an successfully run wireless internet on my laptop. Im not sure if it was working before but i have wifi now. Some pages give me a time out error but lets see what else we can achieve.

I'm using LookOut.

Mike, I tried to root using your updated switch, everything works fine until I get some wierd error saying dll "<asian characters>" is missing. Not sure whats up. Running Windows 7 x64.

So, I don't have root to test barnacle.

try running soup as administrator
or run it in computability mode.

Yeah, I did, as far as I can tell everything in soup runs fine except:

commandwindow.jpg

Any ideas?

Thanks for all your work!

don't put the rooting window in background, don't run or switch to any other applications while running souproot. just wait with its window in the foreground however long it takes...

Adam, it happen to me the first couple of attempts. I put the cmd on the background and everything was screwed, and i didnt work any more until i reboot the phone and the computer also. After the reboot i didnt touch the srceen at all an then everything was great. Try it.

its supposed to says that. we dont have that file on our phones.

If you notice the # in the front of the line your phone already has shell root. Now you just have to run the second script.

I got a question for you guys...if you really have managed to gain level 3 root on the phone, what is the NAND lock actually protecting? Was it disabled in order to gain level 3, or is it still active even after root? Or was the speculation incorrect and there never really was a NAND lock?

we thought it had been NAND locked because some of the apps suggested that was the case.

It however turns out that the phone doesn't seem to be nand locked instead samsung is doing so strange stuff to block certain files from running on the phone. In this case SuperUser.apk is not able to run on our phone. That is the app that pops up on the screen when ever an app requests root access so that you can allow or block the app from having root. Using an SU that doesn't use SuperUser.apk we are able to just grant all apps with root.

we are at this time in a strange area where we can do mostly everything you can do with a level 3 root, but its not all 100% the way we would like it to be. I think one our main issues is that non of the big android hacking users have this phone. Its basically just us new guys poking around at it.

Wow this is nice, I've been following the Indulge area of this forum for a couple weeks now since the phone has been out, and its nice to see progress in rooting it. will anyone make a guide for those of us who are not as Linux savvy? would be great but i do understand people are busy.

Also with the current level of rooting you guys have, can you load custom roms yet or do they need to be created still? or modified from other verisons of roms like cyanogen or simply stunning?
