Welcome marine (and thank you for your service)!
You picked one hell of a nice phone for your first Android. Feel free to do some more roaming around the site for App, game and other recommendations. Great group of folks we have here.

To remove a widget, you press and hold it until it glows red, then drag it up to the top of your home screen where it says "remove"

Most of the cool things about this phone come stock, which is awesome and also a good quality of a smartphone.

You can go to the play store and search through featured and top apps to find cool apps you might find useful.

How are you liking your device so far?

(I'm loving every moment with it!)

Only had it 2 days and trying to learn everything it can do!!
I like it so far left Sprint and the Rumor Touch.:D

Hope ATT treats me good!!

Welcome, I'm a newbie too (1 week and counting) I'm telling you, I'm loving the HTC ONE X after coming from the iPhone 4S, best choice for me, yay! I'm right along with you, leaving everything I can to get the most out of my device.

Go to Settings > Developer Options and tick Force GPU rendering, should make the phone even smoother :)

Some apps don't like that option for some reason so up to you if you want to use it.

A few apps I added to my phone as soon as I got it:
1. 3G Watchdog - monitors data usage on 3G and WiFi (keeps both totals)
2. Battery Indicator - adds a battery usage monitor and also an icon with battery percentage.
3. Jorte - calendar that can read from Google calendar and comes with a bunch of gadgets.
4. Elixir Widget - might be useful but not tried it on Android 4 yet.

As for these two apps, I'd wait before installing them:

1. 3G Watchdog - monitors data usage on 3G and WiFi (keeps both totals)
2. Battery Indicator - adds a battery usage monitor and also an icon with battery percentage.

Have a good look at what the built-in options do, as I have been very impressed with the amount of information available. It also means it's two less apps to take up memory and clutter your app list.
