I just got a Droid 2 Global & I hate it!

I just think that task killer debate is subjective to the user.

I'm using a mytouch 4g as a backup phone and without me using a tk, this phone is slowww

But once I use a Tk, it works just like a 2nd gen snapdragon would

What apps are you killing? How many at a time? How much free RAM are you running?

You won't get a debate from me that even though they theoretically shouldn't, these phones can get laggy when free RAM gets too low (say.. 30-40MB?). If you use a TK to selectively kill games, apps, etc when you're done with them, that's one thing. However, many people improperly use them to auto kill system processes, that will start right up again immediately. This uses battery and system resources, with an overall negative impact on performance and battery life.

I highly suggest you check out Autokiller or some other minfree type app. Instead of running an app to kill other apps (kind of defeating the battery saving purpose), Autokiller runs once at startup and simply overwrites the Android system's default values for minimum free memory. Essentially, it makes Android kill things off sooner than it normally would. However, it still leaves the decision of WHAT to kill up to the Android system, which is the most efficient way. I use it to keep my free RAM around 175-200MB all the time, it keeps the phone snaaaaaaaappy.

I came from a BlackBerry Curve 8330, and so far my biggest learning curve (no pun intended) has been in getting used to the swapped positions of the Alt and Shift keys on the D2G physical keyboard versus the BB's. Other than that, I am loving the responsiveness of the screen, the MUCH better internet experience, and being able to find so many free apps that actually make the machine more useful both as a phone and a computer. I do, however, find copy-and-paste to be a monumental hassle without a trackball to quickly select text. I pray that is improved a bit in 2.3--which, knowing Verizon, I may not see until Christmas.

In just the week-plus I have been using my Droid 2 Global, I have found the battery life seriously lacking--4 hours versus 8+ on my old BB--but like others have mentioned, I have chargers everywhere--car, bedside, and even tethered to my desktop right now. (Using PdaNet for tethering. Sweet!) Plus, my new Bluetooth headset interfaces much more thoroughly with the Droid than on my Curve.

As for the task killer debate, several of the min memory apps mentioned work best if you have root access. Being the cautious, warranty-loving dweeb that I am, I am not willing to risk bricking my lovely new phone. I went instead to Smart Task Switcher, which allows me to kill apps that haven't closed out, and which also gives me more apps to switch to than the long-press on the Home key. Other than that, I let Froyo work its magic.

Take advantage of the 30 days or whatever you have to get used to your new Droid. You may indeed find it is better than you at first thought.

In short, loving my Droid!

I had an ENV Touch and when I got my droid 2 it was a little overwhelming with all the bells and whistles. Now, my entire life is on my phone and I'm really appreciating the bells and whistles. I like to keyboard and use it often though the on screen one is not bad. I haven't tried swype yet. Also, download Angry Birds and poke around the app market. There is a lot you can do that will make you appreciate the flexibility.

I came from a voyager which, in my opinion i thought had an awesome keyboard.. It took me a while to get use to my Droid 2 global but with some time i came around and learned how to use it very well. I didn't like the keyboard when i first got it either but i have small hands so i learned how to type on it. I also use an app called Swiftkey which I think after some time really helps your typing on the touch screen because of its prediction technology.

The main thing i hated about my droid though when i first got it was the battery life, but i recently upgraded to the extended battery and i love it now

Take it back and wait two weeks for a 4G phone... You will find you don't need the hard keyboard in a month either. I have had an original Droid from day 1. Trust me... take it back, the new phones will blow the doors off that phone.

You didn't like the smooth durable glass capacitive touch screen, after using those plastic hazed-up resistive junk ones? Thats odd.

The screen is fairly large on this phone, and its high resolution. It's one of the best phones for internet browsing in my opinion.

I love the DROID2. Coming over from the D1, I have had nothing but good experiences. This is the phone that flies under the radar. It came out the same time the DX came out, and because of the bigger screen on the X, it stole the spotlight. However, this little phone packs a powerful punch, and for those who like having the physical keyboard, it in my opinion is one of the better options out there.
