I just wanted to know..

Can someone give me a few good reasons why I should get the galaxy tab instead of nexus 7? I'm familiar with smartphones but know nothing much about tablets except that they are overgrown versions of smartphones. I essentially will use it to substitute for my computer at home so when it's taken I can use the tablet, and to use it for netflix, surfing, etc.. so which one is your opinions the better tablet?

What convinced me to buy the Tab2 was the Student Edition, which offered the keyboard and USB adapter for the same price as the tab only. Now Amazon & Best Buy are offering the tab only for $199 at the moment.

It seems the Nexus 7 may have the better specs except for no SD Card slot and the $199 for the 8gb version. There may be a Nexus 10 coming out pretty soon from what I've read.

1. Build quality. The tab feels more solid.
2. Card slot. For me this was a dealbreaker but ymmv.
3. Back camera.

And from what I understand, this only works on wi-fi, as in if I don't catch a signal wherever I may be I'll have a tablet that just looks at me with a blank stare or am I wrong? I don't really understand the workings of a tablet as you can tell :)

Some carriers do sale tablets with 3G/4G access. I know Verizon does and AT&T if I'm not mistaken. I don't think the current version of Nexus 7 comes with 3G but the Galaxy tabs do.

I use my smartphone as a Wi-Fi 4G hotspot when I need INTERNET access for my Tab 2 7.0. The hotspot is free for Verizon customers if they don't have an unlimited data plan. For other carriers and unlimited data plan VZW clients it is no more expensive to add the hotspot function to your phone than to add it to a tablet plus it often adds a data allowance for when you add the hotspot for clients who do not have unlimited data plans.

I bought the Student package for $250 which along with the micro SD card made it my choice over the Nexus 7 and KF HD. At $200 without the keyboard the Tab would still be my choice.

I ordered mine on saturday and flipkart is delivering today. the asia version of tab 2 p3100 is 3G/2g enabled with full phone capabilities though its too big to be used as a phone..
I decided to go for tab 2 seeing the build quality of tab and the drop test videos on youtube of both tab2 and nexus7.

FlipKart is kind inough to give me free 8gb sd card and a bluethoot headset bundled with my tab2.

i am looking forward to buy a usb adapter to use flash drives directly on my tab2 and also can you guys suggest me if should i go for a screen guard. is there a glare free screen guard available for tab2? and is the usb adapter a gud idea? i would also like to know if it supports hard disk? i have WD passport 1TB, with NTFS file system.

I bought a tab 2 after owning the nexus 7. It all boils down to quality. In the month and a half I had the n7 I had to send it back for replacement 4 times. Every one of them had screen issues; screen lift, multi touch issues, unresponsive after using it for a bit(had to turn the screen on and off to make it work again), and dead pixels. My last rma I just asked for a refund, and bought the tab 2. The overall quality is far better, plus an extra camera and sd slot.

That being said, I did love my nexus so I'm not just hating. The nexus 7 is killer fast and already has a massive amount of dev support. When the nexus 7 works right, it's awesome. Unfortunately I got bamboozled by Google too many times to chance another one.

The tab 2 might not have a quad core, but in my day to day use I don't notice a difference in speed and responsiveness. I've also had zero defect issues and the damn thing just feels solid. Thanks to aokp and other roms we get to enjoy jelly bean too. I'm happy with my decision.
