Help I keep getting a two tone notification sound, but there's nothing in the menu

The phone makes a little two tone notification, a mid note then a higher note. The LED flashes as if there's a notification. I open the phone, and the menu says I have no new notifications. No texts, emails, etc.

It's really annoying, it's happened about 5 times today. Anybody know how to track down a rogue/ghost notification?

Is your charge below 15%? Mine makes a quick two tone sound and lights the notification light in a similar fashion to what you described when the charge falls below 15%.

Don't think it's that, the charge is good. One time when it did it there was a notification from the Play store about an update, but most of the time when it makes this one noise I have no idea where it's coming from. Wish there was a central notification area instead of each app having it's own settings. At the very least the phone shouldn't sound off for something and then not present me with any info about what it's trying to tell me.

How do you get your battery to display percentage as opposed to that useless battery icon that either looks full, half full or empty?

same issue here, I actually caught mine with a screenshot, what does that triangle mean by the signal? It'll do that then reconnect to 3G

It happens mostly when I'm at home, but also sometimes when I'm out.

Could it possibly be roaming?? I know there have been a few issues with the software/radio in the EVO V getting the error 64 when you text. I wonder if its from the radio issue causing it too say it's roaming even though there isn't roaming with VMUSA?

Just a thought...

More info:
(I was just excited that I caught a screenshot of the triangle, it's quick, like 1.5 seconds and it goes away.)
It really happens the most when I'm at home. It's like the OP said, it makes a notification sound and that's all it does. Mine was doing it every 5-10 mins the other day, recently it's been less. It just started this a few days ago.

My phone had been having issues with audio cutting out while on the phone but that was before this.
I don't think I'm roaming since I'm in the Twin Cities, MN. Also, 4G Wimax is a joke, but that's for another thread.

I was thinking it might be indicating 3G vs 1G, maybe every time it switches on it makes the noise. I think the sound might be "vector", but not sure.

Also not sure where this notification can be accessed or changed. The sound is NOT what I have my notification sound set to.

Is it possible that the phone dings when there's something in the top menu even if that app is set to make no sound? I have weather bug installed. It's set to give me menu notifications but audible notifications are turned off.

well, it's still doing it. I've disabled all notifications from weatherbug, and after the last ding I noticed Twitter had auto-updated, but I checked the Play Store, and notifications are off...

This is really driving me crazy, every hour or so the phone dings with a tone that I can't exactly find in the tone area, and there's no message or corresponding alert to give me an inkling as to what the phone is trying to tell me.

This is almost enough to return it. I can't have a phone dinging all day for some unknown reason. I'll have to keep it on silent, then I'll miss calls/texts...

Is there an app that can scan for all things that are allowed to make noise?

*edit - it just did it three times in under ten minutes, once it did it while the screen was on and I was looking straight at it. The only thing on screen that was even moving was the WiFi icon, otherwise - no text/email/update of any kind

Assuming it was 3G, where in the settings would you find notifications?

As a previous poster mentioned this is a roaming notification. Could you possibly have a weak signal at your home?

How do I check if it's roaming? And mainly, how do you disable the roaming notification?

It seems strange that it would roam when I'm not moving around or anything. There's no on-screen indication as to what's going on.

If that's it then mystery solved, but I still need to disable it.

well, if it is in fact roaming I have not figured out where that setting would hide. I searched across the web and found the older Evo had the same issue, the setting is inside "wireless & networks" or something, a menu item that we no longer have in Ice Cream Sandwich. I've tried long pressing over everything and gone through every single menu item looking for a notification to disable, no luck.

It woke me up a few times last night, it goes off at work, and if I'm listening to music it interrupts that. I've now submitted a tech support ticket with HTC. I cannot deal with a phone that makes random noises all day and night. I'm also fairly sure that the noise isn't even a standard notification, it's certainly not the one I picked. It's a magic default sound that seems to have no way of being disabled. My girlfriend thinks I should reset the phone to factory default - if the rest of you aren't dealing with this then maybe it's a defective app I installed...

I'll let you know when I hear back from tech support if I haven't thrown it out the window out of frustration first.

Are you using the stock PRL? 61007, 61008, or 61009? The phone should not ever roam, unless you've loaded a Sprint PRL that allows roaming. It would still not make calls on another network, but it will connect to their towers.

When I had this issue, not sure why it just started this morning even though I had the app for a while now, it was being caused by alerts from the Yahoo Mail application I was using. I found another similar thread that mentioned Yahoo as the source.

When I went into preferences, I found the alert tone was set to the same tone I was hearing "randomly". I would have never guessed since I had "turned off" alerts in Yahoo, but apparently that only turns off the notification icon and alert but not the new email alert tone.

I wonder how this was resolved sir, I noticed that as well. there used to be a setting to turn off roaming on the sprint evo 3d but not on the virgin model (which should never roam)

Yea it was a stock phone that was having the issue, it persisted after root & unroot as well.
They actually sent me a replacement and the same issue occured.

I sent them the screenshot of the triangle:

I checked, and this seems to have been my issue as well. I chose 'no sound', so hopefully I won't be woken up in the middle of the night anymore.

It's gotta be the roaming notification sound. I'm on mobster rom with aosp settings. In aosp settings, open your menu, go to "more" select mobile networks and do 2 things: 1st disable the roaming notification sound. 2 switch the cdma mode to Sprint only since VM doesn't have roaming anyways. Hope this helps.

I know this thread is a little old, but I didn't see that the issue was resolved.

It absolutely IS the roaming sound. That triangle by the signal meter is the roaming indicator.

To turn off the sound from switching from regular service to roaming, from the home screen, hit Menu, then Settings, then click on Mobile Network, then un-check the "Data roaming sound." It should stop making the sound when switching to/from roaming. I hope this helps.

Mine was the Yahoo mail app. It was driving me mad. Nothing in the status bar, just a two-tone ding-ding. All the notification boxes in the app were unticked but it was still dinging.

Go to the app, - Options - Account settings - Notification Settings - Choose sound. If you touch the "Yahoo! Default" I bet you hear the two-tone ding. Select "No sound". I haven't heard it since it did that. If that doesn't fix it, the app is coming off the phone. Yahoo need to get real. That is not OK.

I know this is old but I looked at the yahoo app and thats the sound my fone was makeing so I took it off hopefully this will stop that dam sound lol thanks

I know this is an old thread, but I just wanted to say thank you guys so much, mine was also the yahoo mail app! The yahoo default sound was the one I kept hearing (was nowhere to be found in my normal ringtones or notifications), I had set my phone not to notify me, but apparently the app has it's own settings. Scroll down to settings (it's below your folders) and you will find it. :)

Thanks for sharing this. I was having the same issue

My phone was doing this as well, but it is when I am charging it. I researched and learned that my charger I am using is an old one and somehow the Galaxy Note 2 isn't "liking it".

Because I'm new here, I am not allowed to post the link to the thread.

I am quoting part of the conversation:

"I've got the same issue. When I charge at night with an old micro USB 2.0 (or is it 2.1A?) charger that it beeps every so often and at times turns the display back on. It's very irritating. If there's no way to fix this other than upgrading all my chargers for this phone to USB3, that doesn't seem very backwards compatible.

What I've noticed is if I bring up the "Battery" app, I see it change several times from "Charging" to "Not charging". Each time it beeps is when it goes from "Not charging" to "Charging". So obviously the S5 doesn't like these older non-USB3 chargers."

"The phone charges fine with a USB 2 cable hooked to the new Samsung charger that came with the phone. So, it doesn't matter the cable, it matters how many amps your charger is putting out."
