Help I keep hanging up with my cheek

Sorry about posting this...didn't see anything in the incredible forums, and the other phone forums with this issue didn't seem to be very helpful. I have a habit of hitting the 'end call' button with my cheek when on the phone. I have tried turning off the screen with the power button while on a call, but when i move the screen turns back on, and it's ripe for the hangup again. I know about the proximity sensor, but I tend to walk around when I am on the phone, and the movement seems to override the sensor when I'm talking. Does anybody know of a way to lock the screen while on calls or any other suggestions to stop this occurrence?

There's either an issue with your proximity sensor, or you aren't holding the phone quite right. That sounds stupid but if you're holding it at an angle, so its not always up against your face, it'll think you are pulling it away from your ear. I've heard long(er) hair can also cause this to happen.

Thanks for your response. I am guilty of both...I was hoping there was a solution for those of us who are ... umm...less mindful of the position in which we hold our phones :o I tend to walk around and multitask when when on the phone, and it's tough to hold it plastered up against my cheek the entire time.

What if you tried closing the phone screen using the Home button. This doesn't disconnect you. Then you would need to open it again to hang up by pressing Phone then End Call.

A definitve solution is a Bluetooth headset. It frees both hands to allow you to multitask (although a leading sports psychologist and past Olympic Gold Medalist has told me there is no such thing) ;).

Rob G, thanks for the suggestion....I've tried hitting the power button to turn off the screen (which just results in the screen turning on again when i move), but never thought to try the home button. Will try it out on the next phone call, and let you know if this works. RNF - bluetooth headset will certainly solve the problem, but it's too easy to lose if I take it with me everywhere (just keep it in my car for now). Plus I can never figure out how to pair it up correctly :p

You really only need to keep the left side of the phone against your face. Sometimes I hold the phone at an angle away from my face and the screen turns on, too, but I'll notice and make sure the left side of the phone is close to my ear. That's the side the proximity sensor is on.

I guess I should be glad (?) I'm not the only one - was starting to think I had squirrel cheeks or something. But it kinda sucks that I have to think about the phone instead of concentrating on the call! I guess I'm gonna become a bluetooth person - as much as I hate that. I'll think about posting a youtube - holding the phone at an angle, cutting my hair so it is short on that side, etc. :)

just a suggestion,

i had the same issue with my droid 1, but if you download screen suite ($1.99) you can have an iphone type screen lock during phone calls so its almost impossible to unlock unintentionally. theres a couple of other settings that the app gave me, but they were kinda stupid IMO, so all i use is that "during phone call" lock, with it set to auto lock during calls

EDIT:
Update, after messing around with this app's settings and trying a few more calls, it stopped working on me and constantly force closes itself all the time, so don't get it. sorry for the useless suggestion

Mine didn't start doing this until verizon updated to the newer OS. I had the phone from the day it came out and never had this problem until I downloaded the new OS. It drives me crazy because I'm always on the phone at work multitasking and it will hang up on customers.
