I managed to get a Galaxy Nexus at Radio Shack!

Walked into the Queens Blvd. store (after calling first) and walked out with my new Galaxy Nexus! Took over an hour. Store manager took care of me. Said the District Manager told him it was clear to sell.

Problem came when he rang it up. Computer said 'cannot sell'. He made a bunch of calls. Finally, POS support said he cannot sell it because no price is listed and the computer won't take it.

He felt really bad, especially since he ported my number over from Sprint and my old phone no longer worked.

Then he spoke to his District Manager again, looked at me, and said, "F*** it!, Pay me in cash!" So I went to the ATM and gave him the cash. He couldn't give me a real receipt until 12/15.

Now I'm the proud owner of a Galaxy Nexus!! Sitting on my desk charging now.
Thinner than I thought it would be. Sooo nice...

Only problem, maybe, is I can't tell if I have any data services. There is no $G LTE or 3G icons on the screen. Am I missing something? New to Verizon but not Android. Thanks for the help.

Looks like carrier data is disabled for some reason. You only see the signal bars (with no 1x/3G/4G icon) when carrier data and/or data roaming is disabled if you're roaming. Not sure where that option is at in ICS though. Shouldn't be too hard to find in the settings.

You are sure it's been activated? Can you make calls? Can you go to the Internet? I don't have a Nexus but all Verizon smartphones I have seen so far will display "Verizon" and LTE/3G/1X on the top.

How much did you end up paying for the phone? How did he know what price to charge you if there was no price in the computer? Did he tax he on the full price or the subsidized price?

Since he couldn't "really" sell it, I don't see how it can be activated.
Also, I hope you did at least get a receipt of some kind instead of just trusting the guy.

I'd rather wait until release date than to walk out without a receipt or anything. It's exciting that you have yours, I'm still waiting... somewhat patiently...

It doesn't say Verizon in the menu bar. I can make a phone call. But I cannot access the web.

Sounds like you don't have data activated. Call 611 and have them review your account. Your phone will show either 4G or 3G next to the signal bars when it works (it won't show LTE or Verizon in the status bar).

I'm on the line with Verizon now. They say they can see my SIM card but not my phone. Having me pull my SIM, power down, etc.

called the one next to my house just now, he says checking inventory shows 3 stores in our area have them and he could have it to his store same day and sell it to me....I was excited until he said $799.00...

I am tempted to make a Best Buy/Radio Shack run today to see if I can get lucky.

Congrats on being one of the few to score one early. Looking forward to your reviews!

The title of this thread is VERY misleading. You may have found a RS to sell you one but you know as well as everyone else that they wasn't supposed to sell it.

just my personal opinion here...but i wouldn't have felt comfortable leaving without a receipt. Congrats on getting the device though.

Just stopped by my local store and the guy actually went in the back to get it for me...came back out with nothing. Asked his manager about it and she said they can't sell them and don't know when they will be available. :(

Completely not true. RS is selling them, at the very least, in the NY district. As approved by a District Manager. They were completely open about selling it. Nothing below the table. It's not the only store that will sell it.

'Radio Shack is now selling the Galaxy Nexus.' Completely true.

Back up, my Android friend. I absolutely did get a receipt that shows I purchased this phone, although they had to hand write what I purchased and I made them initial it. I just need to come back on 12.15 to get the complete Verizon receipt.

No offense toward the OP one but, but it's just that the thread title suggests that Radio Shack has the device and is now selling normally, and not that the OP got lucky and an employee managed to get one, not fully functional, into his hands.
