Root I need guidance on battery life.

I've been injected with the Plague now for about 24 hours... I love it so far. I don't really understand the technical jazz of being over-clocked, to be honest I really don't even know where I'd see a major difference at but the phone is really responsive. So all in all, no complaints there...

I dont even have a real complaint about battery life, I normally have to change to my backup battery near the end of my day depending on how much usage my phone gets.

I started my day at 4:30 am. So, around 5 my phone was off the charger @ 100% charge... I was at school all day, so 3/4 of the time was spent on idle... I did record two 2-3 minute videos from lecture, browsed youtube watched for a few minutes, found one 2 minute video - wathced it, texted very minimally - probably 5-10 texts back and forth between my wife and I and I checked facebook... probably spent 15 minutes max on it.

It is now 5:21 pm and my battery has 4% - is that good?

I always make sure I close any open apps, I make random checks to see whats running in the foreground and background to make sure nothing unneccesary is running and close as needed. Personally, I think today my battery did pretty good... I normally have iHeart Radio running for 75% of the day while I'm in class - I gotta have tunes while I'm working on cars lol and by the time lunch rolls around I'm swapping batteries...

I've always had stupid phones - my last phone was a Samsung Messenger 2, I had that phone until it literally wouldnt turn on anymore... I got this Esteem now and god its a shock how quick it dies... so basically, I'm just curious if this is normal battery life or if I'm doing something wrong lol

Wait a minute you only had the phone on for a hour you saying ..:banghead::what::eek: wow first you may want to do a data wipe clean the rom you are using next ..go to the google playstore and download juice defender .... may i ask if you are rooted with the plauge kernel did you change the build dot prop to a number 2

Overclocking is a setting that is higher than what the phone can normally do so if you was told this phone can do 1ghz its cool if you overclocking it you push the performance rate up some .. this overclocking will cause the phone to respond faster and cause the screen scrolling to move quickly and more . Overclocking can cause problems with the battery cause you don't need it past 1024 if you have it at 1620 well that's why your battery is gone . Come down to about 1024 or 768 . If you want to save battery uncheck the light sensor and bring down the brightness screen down and change the screen timeout to 30 sec or lower .. the brighter the screen the more power you use ... and maybe try and get extended battery ..

wait what? where did you get an hour from bro?

EDIT: Oh lol I see, you thought I meant 5:30 AM haha nah I meant PM... I changed it, sorry for the confusion.

I've had Plague installed for over a day.

I did a complete system wipe before installing this rom, unintentionally, but did it nonetheless. I havnt touched the basic Plague overclock settings... I just thought that it had mentioned something in the description about still having good battery life so I just wanted to know if 12 hours was a good amount of time. I talked to Mex, he told me that longest he ever got was like 15 but that was on Driftas 2.4... so I guess 12-13 hours is pretty much norm. :(

Oh, btw... I'm at 1024 max and 245 min according to Rom Toolbox.

O i didn't read nahh you good if it said 521pm u did 12 hours that's great but you can get the juice defender . And a extended battery and modify your setting to decrease the brightness and change screen timeout and change that build.prop .

Yeah, I forgot to mention PM at first, I'm sorry bud.

I will grab the juice defender now, I'm new to the droid scene... I've had this phone for only about a week. It's been quite a learning experience, it kills me with the battery life but I didn't know 12 hours was good lol here I thought I wasn't killing enough background apps haha

O yes its good but get the juice defender it will work and add more battery life to get that 14 or 15 hours which tool box you have i hope pro if so do you know anything about build dot prop

Nahh its good if that's the factory oem battery yes the grey lg one ......but juice defender will add and provide you a little more time with battery

I'm on the OEM battery, yeah... I have a cheap-o aftermarket for my backup, but today was the first day I didnt have to change it, but I didnt use my phone as much though.

I'm not really sure about build.prop I just tore about my framework APK for the lockscreen text.. that was pretty cool lol

I'm using the free ROM Toolbox, I had a premium but I'm on lite now since it upgraded itself, same for ROM Manager - free.

Well how did you hold up with the juice defender does it work for you or what ..... don't be afraid to get the paid apps don't worry long as you know your google email address you will always have them and you can use them for life ..i would say i was at first but now got a lot of paid apps and when you need help with them the dev is there to help you out .....

Try different rom (#2 or Broekn Out) and see if one works better than another.

If you don't run gaming or heavy app, you may underclock CPU to 800mhz.

Well, i'm 16 I go to school and I text ALL day long. I wake up at 6:30 and unplug it, use it to text, check twitter.. a lot too and facebook and browse a little bit. I get home around 3 or 4. By then it has 30% around there.

For me, thats pretty good since i'm always on my phone. My phone is more time awake than its idle.

I'm on ROM #2 V2.4. My brightness is always all the way down. I set my CPU so when my screen is off it goes to the 700s maximum. I use JD (Juice Defender) so it turns off my data when my screen is off as well. Thats about the only thing I do. OH, I NEVER, EVER OVERCLOCK. My phone runs smooth as butter, i don't have a reason to overclock at all.

By how much you use your phone you should get WAY better battery life than me by doing what I do, if you don't already. This is all with the stock battery. Oh, and calibrate your battery. It wont improve or anything but I suggest you do :) :D

EDIT: I just saw that you use iHeart Radio 75% of your class. Well, that does drain battery quite a lot since it uses data and all. But I've heard (never tried it) that Plague does drain battery. Try #2 and see if there is any improvement in your battery life.

Aren't you suppose to be paying attention in school?! Haha I do too xD

Okay guys... got a new update for you on this situation...

I decided I'd give it two days of equal phone usage [did my best to recreate the day I explained in the original post on both days], one with Juice Defender and the auto-task killer that the Juice Defender devs suggest to accompany the program, and one day with them uninstalled... still using the Plague kernel. btw... both days my brightness is set to auto

So, I took two days at school... both 13 hour days - 4:30 AM - 5:30 PM.

So... day one, with Juice Defender on the balanced setting with the advanced settings set - like wifi searching... etc all enabled, and the auto-task killer set to Optimal. 10 1/2 hours into my day in welding class I went out to smoke a cigarette and I found myself with a dead phone... I had to switch to my backup battery.

Day two (today) not happy with yesterdays results... I ditched the apps, did my best to go into phone settings and set my phone to preserve battery life manually from what I had learned from the options that Juice Defender gave me about things that killed my battery. It is now 5:39 as I'm typing this... the phone is still alive with 17% life left.

17% left AFTER going to google play, downloading the app for this forum... and typing this whole posting up... just to get to the final sentence and I fat fingered the screen and accidentally closed the app! :banghead: - DOH!

So now I'm typing this on my computer... I'll include a screen shot:

Oh wait... I lied, I used the phone more than I had originally thought... today, [the day that the battery lasted longer] I played Need for Speed Hot Pursuit for like 20 minutes waiting for my professor to start lecture. lol

Ok wait up you lost me which juice defender you used cause it set for you and i think its only basic ...i have the paid version i can select those other ones like aggressive and etc. And you have to use it for about 2 to 4 days before you notice anything and you played a game for 20 minutes .... the graphics is a battery eater :what::eek:

I used a "free" juice defender pro that I got from a torrent. I used balanced mode (I think it was called) I couldve used the other options, but I didn't know what they'd do... as far as the advanced options, I had all of them enabled.

I felt like the app even being there running killed my battery... I went into ROM Toolbox and disabled unnecessary programs from loading and disabled some of the things Juice Defender disabled... but just did them manually in the Settings screen. Regardless, I have you to thank for being able to set my phone up because if it weren't for you showing me JD... I woulda never knew what to and what not to disable. :o

Thats good glad to be helpful with setting up if you have any other issues with the device dont be affraid to post or pm asking for the right path we are all here to help each other . And think today i help u and tomorrow you help someone else :thumbup::what:
