These are available via Google Play Books and Amazon.

As for ebook apps, try Moon+ Reader. It reads most ebook formats.

An excellent place to find free ebooks is Project Gutenberg.

Smashwords has some, Digilibraries is another. There are a lot of duplicates of the public domain books. Creative Commons is also a place to discover new authors.
I like sci-fi, but suppose this could apply to any site:

An author will release the first volume of an anthology free. You can read it and decide it you want to buy the others.
Smashwords does work this way. Also has reviews of books.

I actually used an app called 1000+ ebook reader and downloader and it got deleted so now books are not easy to get.
