I NEED some advice

I've asked twice about the process.com vending error (I think an update messed up something, I hadn't tinkered with the phone)

Would it be easier to fix a Nexus S using Ubuntu rather than hassling with the SGS4G?

I don't know if a factory reset will fix the Market error - I've tried everything else suggested. The phone has been upgraded to GB and re-rooted. I got the update from TMO. Would a reset go back to Froyo?

I've backed up just the installed apps on TB. I'm worried that as soon as I put the SD card with the backups in, TB will install the wrong file.

I'm looking at a used unlocked Galaxy Nexus S from Amazon. If you root that, how much of Google's stuff can you get rid of?

And where would I find the instructions for dealing with the phone using Ubuntu?

Thanks

My I suggest your market problem to try to unistall the updates and try the market if it works but temporary try to clear cache, data next.
About the nexus phones they're all unlockable bootloaders rooting is easy. Think about it.

Can't install the updates. Had to reload the apk file so I'm stuck with 3.44, I might have accidently deleted talk - got it confused with voice which I did intend to delete but market had buggered before that. I've done almost ever remedy I've found, and no joy. I might have had an incomplete update from TB. That was the only update I did before the SGS4G buggered

I guess I will have to start from scratch.

Does anyone know how the Nexus S works with Linux?

Thanks

I'm not sure how to help (or if I can) on the Ubuntu question. (I admit to not following your question, to run it on the Nexus or pc.)

I can move this to the Nexus S or Nexus S root forum if you think it would help...

I've read through most of that. On Windows, you need to use ADB, but I saw a piece of info somewhere that said that on Mac and Linux you didn't need ADB since Android and Linux were related.

I'm curious, and since windows seems to be more prevalent here, I'd just like more info. I do run an Ubuntu desktop. Do you know of a Linux forum that would cover cell phones?

Thanks

@ehurtado:

Are you referring to the SGS4G with the problem? If so, how recent should the download be? The vending apks I've seen date from 2008/2010. One was included in a download for video chat and that was a more recent post. Dec 2011 or in 2012.

The download was a zip, and I always read through folders anyway.

Just download ANY rom, strip the vending.apk from it, put it in your SD card, then, using root explorer, or any other file manager that has access to root and can make your system folder writable, copy that vending.apk to /system/app/

Reboot your phone and you should be running the new market right there...

That fixed it. Thanks.

I've got the Nexus on order as I want a better backup phone than a Behold 2.

I'll sell the Behold2. I still want to learn more ins and outs of Linux, since the laptop will eventually be converted and the only windows machines will be running XP, special software and offline.
