Yes I am not joking I am dead serious about it.

I am aware of the dangers involved. Sorry if I gave the wrong impression. I really want to try and get involved in it. I am not concerned about short trading but if I can do it then I would to try and see where it goes.

Well I got a bit angry after a while when I didn't get an answer - I am serious about trading. That's no joke - and yes I am aware of failing or losing my money.

No - not short term I want to try long term and yes yes yes I know I can lose big - I have extra income to see where it goes.

The thread title is bit a true in a way... My version of "taking over" is making lot's of money... I have but I want more... what's wrong with that?

All I want to do is just give it a try and see where it goes. I won't be doing huge amounts in the start and I won't be selling the clothes on my back to do it.

And NO this thread is NOT a joke... I am dead serious I am generally light hearted - however need a hand to get into it somehow... or somebody that knows how to go about it?

Yes I should learn a time and place for everything - apologies. Just got a bit frustrated that's all.

But may as well just delete this thread it seems to have gone a bit wrong.

Well medium to long term investments are a completely different ball game, and I would definitely encourage you to get into that if you have some money to invest. I know a little bit about it in the UK, but that's no good to you, so I'll shut up now and let other more knowledgeable people comment. Apologies if my flippant comment caused offence.

Naah I am actually very dumb sometimes and speak like a bit of a fool I am not being clever sometimes with my own arrogance shoot myself in the foot I do - I seriously need to learn the saying "There is a time and place for everything" or something similar but you get the idea I think.

I am sorry I got a bit stupid with my attitude. Apologies Psionandy - sometimes things go to my fat head.

I really should have made it more clear you are correct.

Maybe I should create a new thread?

Apologies to all for my slight rudeness. I sometimes have a lot to learn... sorry Posionandy

I am just new to investing and want to know if any body has got an idea on how to go about it?

You see my problem is I am in SA and might be difficult for me to get an account that is based globally but I don't really know if that is necessary?

Do they want any specific criteria?

No you guys have nothing to be sorry about - you are right actually - you were just trying to help and I can be so ruddy enigmatic and stupid that it's actually just a pain in the ass for other people and yes a lot of people don't know when I am serious or not and I need to be more clear and more direct or whatever word is used to describe it??

Yes - I want to trade but don't know what kind of criteria I need to qualify etc etc... do I need a certain income bracket or can I go directly to the NASDAQ or NYC stock exchange...

I want to start very small and see what happens.

I sincerely apologise for my behaviour - yes I have a bit (A LOT) to learn sometimes sorry :(

You see I am in South Africa - I have done trading shares (we say shares but I think the USA is the only Country in the world that calls them "stocks" and this can be confusing because it can be confused with "company stock" and "share" of a company)

I have done trading in South Africa but I have - 000000000 confidence in South Africa but it was just a test run even though I did actually get a bit out of it... I won a bit here and there even after taking inflation into account...

I did win /gain a bit in South Africa but I will soon have a dollar account opening up because I am about to get paid in dollars for the first time in my life due to new work... I believe the vast majority of South Africa's share market ("JSE" - Johannesburg Stock Exchange) is a dead end road as there is no future in South Africa due to insane politics and rampant corruption... anyway I am going slightly off topic I guess.

What I don't know is how to open up my account (globally) or is it even necessary to do in order to start trading? How do I do it for the global market?

I want to buy shares / "stocks" (if you are based in the Americas and calling it stocks) as there is a company or 2 I have my eye on as I see potential in them... just would like to know how to set up my account for global buying and selling of shares.

For the JSE - it was very very very easy for me to start trading. It was straight forward and simple to set up and took less than a day to get started - I am just clueless for the global markets and economies.

All I would like to know is how do I set up or get it up and running?

Please note - I just want to know how to set it up - I will be fine after that :)

Do I HAVE to be an American citizen?? Or - can I do it from anywhere in the world?

I don't see why they should have a problem as they should encourage investors - not scare us away! But maybe I need certain criteria or something along those lines?

Just curious because it was very easy for me here in SA but clueless as to how to go about it for other markets.

I have done some research but always like to know what is legitimate or not... too many scams out there...

Wow... I feel like such a dumb ass when I speak sometimes... :(

I feel very small right now... argh

Fun and games... I wish I could just be a little bit smarter sometimes... is it smarter or nicer?

Is there really difference?

Do they go hand in hand?

Sorry all I feel like a jerk right now... I will just go and sit in that corner... over there... don't mind me please... just having a shit day I think...

If there is anything I can do to make it better please let me know.

Ouch... pain is knowledge!

the thing is... you are in SA.. most of us are not. I am in the USA.
each country would have different rules and guidelines.

Can you make an online account on trading sites that we use in USA? I don't know.
if you can? how would that affect your taxes?

here is one site: https://us.etrade.com/home

I have a friend that wanted to try... he started with $30k US dollars.
he talked to friends and family about what they are investing in... he made some good choices...
but he is NOT a longterm thinker.. He loves playing poker (texas hold'em)
he watches the stock's jump and fall.... and panics..
he always jumps out as it fall.. he can not wait for it to turn around in the LONG run.
so.. he is now out of the stock game.. with $15k.

if he had listen to me and waited 2 months.. all the stocks had rebounded and climbed...
he would have now $45k....

Yes I get hit very hard by taxes because of how much I earn already :(

It's ****ing disgusting... I already hate this government more than anything... and now I am FORCED to pay them...

ALSO to make matters even WORSE I am worth waaaaaay more over seas than what I am worth in SA.... yes so I want to go to a tax haven! We are GROSSLY underpaid here!!!

Even Mauritius is looking better than this shit hole! At east I won't pay insane taxes there... ruddy ****ers in this country!!!

But thanks dan :)

Sorry about your friend buddy...

I am very aware of the dangers involved... I am grateful for all the words of warning here... and all the kind people even though I got a bit stupid at one point but feeling better after I made things right / better :)

What I would like to is just give it a try as I will have some extra cash on the side to spare... I just will never start off with 30 000 dollars that's waaaay too much for me to start off with! I will start off with only a few thousand never that much as that's too much to lose in my books...

I will start much smaller than your friend and it might stay that way... unless of course I learn so much that I have a good vibration about something then I might put a bit more into... but never as high as 30 000... that's a bit too much for me :)

Maybe a few 1000 I will start with but never 30 000 - only later when I feel more confident :D

I could get loads of qualifications with that kind of cash in SA so would never throw 30 000 dollars away like that

Its 15 dollars to the Rand right now so you do the math... you can buy a small home with that kind of cash here :D

What I want to try is get a little bit into oil... just a tiny bit... I know it is "shitty" right now... but if you just wait it out a little bit... there are many things to take into consideration... many changes occurring right now that scares everybody but just keep your cool...

There are issues like new fracking procedures and new technologies that for those interested can just open up a new fracking plant for only 1 million USD - so Saudi countered by slashing their prices radically to take the new plants out of business so they couldn't beat their prices per barrel ... there is a massive war going on behind the scenes... but it will level out espicially when everyone wants to get out of it

I like to do a lot of reading... but I am not fooled by the panic syndrome...

I am not just a pretty face...

I feel it will rise in the future... this is a trend that will last maybe a year or so but afterwards... I might win very big but I just want to take a VERY small amount into consideration... even then I might change my mind before purchasing...

Note the SMALL amount of money... I am not going to spend 30 000 that's just insane ....

30 000 is far too much for me for slight gambles... or just some small knocking about... will never go with 30 000 :D
