Root i need some help, again

I rooted and went back from the verizon 2.1 update....everything worked great but when i rebooted into recovery mode the menu is different..it only allows updates....i used to boot into recovery and have a little nandroid thingy...now i have an exclamation mark....i dont want to use a terminal to do roms, anybody tell me where i went wrong and how to correct it?
 
You're using the stock recovery image, aren't you? There is no Nandroid or anything besides sdcard: apply update.zip unless you flash SPRecovery or ClockworkMod Recovery.
 
i used the stock recovery but still have all my old stuff on the card...how do i get to nandroid recovery?? man it seems so long ago

or if i purchase rom manager can i just load roms that way?
 
You need to replace the stock recovery with either SPRecovery or ClockworkMod. The free version of ROM Manager will do both of those. ClockworkMod is the first option and SPRecovery is under "Alternative Recovery" towards the bottom.
