I need some help, PHANDROID Forum members!

Hey everybody, I literally just made this account only for this post. May come back to the website for help every now and then, but for right now - I need your help.

You all know that the new iPhone 5S/5C were just released, and in my sight, they are some of the greatest looking, and sleekest phones out to date. I love have a nicely-designed sleek phone, but I just think it MAY be time to change.

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3, and Forum, I need your help telling me all the BAD things about the iPhone to help me feel more secure with my Android phone.
I feel like switching, but the prices are a bit high. Tell me literally all you can tell me about how bad iPhones are, including the store, UI, pricing, contracts, glitches or hacks, please anything to change my mind from this.

Thank you Phandroiders.

Hey zzzander, welcome to our AndroidForums.

I think most of our members would be more comfortable espousing the positives of Android vs. dwelling on the negatives of an iPhone (we'd rather try to couch things in a positive, constructive way :)).

That being said, there is plenty of room here at AF for friendly debate and comparisons and we have an area just for that:

If you want, I can move your thread over to there or you might browse around that area to see if your iPhone / SGS3 comparison has already been made.

Let me know and cheers!

i personally think it is too hard to make some choose one over the other.
we just dont think like you.

if you want.. you should go get the iphone..
who knows.. you might even be a lot happier.

if you do go iphone.. and then come back.. please do let us know why you came back

I agree. So my suggestion would be to let us tell you about the pluses of Android phones, and let an Apple forum tell you about the pluses of iPhones. That way you can take the feedback/opinions/input from both, weigh them, and then make an informed decision.

If you decide your S3 is still sufficient, or if you decide to upgrade to a different Android phone, great! Hopefully you'll stick around here and get to be part of our family. :) But if you decide to go with an iPhone, that's fine, too. You're still welcome here. :D We have tons of non-Android discussions, too.

If you like customizations, ease of file transfers, bigger screens, etc, the S3 is definitely your choice.

If you like a small phone that looks trendy, the iPhone does look shiny. It's fairly straightforward due to the uniformity of it all.

Spec-wise, it's apples(no pun intended) to oranges(or samsungs). You're comparing a phone that was released over a year ago to a phone that hit shelves Friday.

Here are my favorite things about Android.

Google services just plain work. I love the synchronicity of the Google Services. It creates a great user experience for me.

The flexibility of Android. The great thing about Android is you can make it your own experience. While some things require root, others don't (more on that). But basically, if you don't like the way something works or looks, you can find an app to change it. From launchers to icon packs, you can change just about everything with little to no effort.

The growth of Android. Android has become one of the fastest growing platforms, applications on the Play Store have passed over apps on iOS. It will only keep on growing as more Android devices are activated over any other platform worldwide.

The ecosystem. You've probably bought into the ecosystem with apps that you've purchased. If you switch devices or add a new device, all your apps are available if it's compatible with your device. On top of that, you are not tied soley on Google Play Store for apps, you can also install apps from Amazon App Market.

Rooting and Custom ROMS. There are a plethora of apps out there designed for rooted devices that will give you extended functionallity. Custom ROMS are a way to update your device without being tied to OEM/Carrier. A good custom ROM can increase the life of your device and give you a fresh look at it. Some have additonal goodies baked in.

You aren't tied to one device: There are hundreds of devices running Android ranging from affordable to spec monster beasts. Android Devices come in many sizes and shapes. If you want a larger screen size, you got the Note III at 5.68", want a smaller screen size DROID Mini is a great deal at 4.3". With proper research, you can find a device that will suit your needs and tastes.

Compitition: Compitition is a very good thing. You have the major players, Samsung, HTC, Motorola, LG, Sony... and smaller OEM's (or location specific OEM's) like Pantech, Asus, Oppo, GooPhone all competing for your dollar. Each one takes a different unique twist on Android. Samsung has TouchWiz, HTC has Sense, Motorola has been running phones near stock Android now. But because they all are saying, buy me! they all are trying to be better.

So the question is, why not stick with Android? My recommendation is, check out the HTC One.

Edit: Also can't forget other goodies such as NFC and Wireless Charging. NFC is a great way to transfer files and (if your carrier will allow it) use it for payments on Google Wallet. Wireless charging is awesome, I love being able to just set my phone down on a powerpad and have it charge. Android allows for rapid implemetation of new technology because of the sheer amount of new phones that can be released. Within the last 90 days the following were launched (this is not an extensive list); Sony Experia Z1, DROID by Motorola (Maxx, Mini, Ultra), Motorola Moto X, Samsung Galaxy Note III, HTC One on Verizon, Kyocera Hydro, etc... Because of all the OEM's releasing so many phones, they can test new technology.

I also love the fact that I can just drag and drop my music onto my phone. Or use Google Play Music's All Access. I'm not tied to iTunes for all my music and media. All my music and media files work perfectly on my phone and tablet.

In my house we have 3 iPhones, one iPad, and one iPod Touch. I'm finally moving to Samsung. My motivations include:

1. Screen size. I do too much when mobile to be stuck with a 4" screen forever.

2. Non-removable battery. Nothing is more frustrating than being out and about without a convenient charging place, needing to get something done, but unable to because of lack of battery power.

3. Screen size. iPhones cost as much as anything but they are still small, with a smaller battery. Shouldn't they be cheaper?

4. Price-gouging for larger internal storage. With no SD-card support, they really seem to stick it to you just to get more internal storage.

5. Screen size. Reading an article online with a cup of coffee in the morning is a chore because of the small screen. Zoom in, zoom out, pan this way, pan that way. Gets tiring.

6. iTunes. I'm sick of it. And now almost all the songs are $1.29, up from $0.99. That's a 30% increase!

7. Apple seems to be spending a lot of their time on the bling aspect of their phones, instead of making the user experience better.

8. iOS7. Not impressed :(

9. Moving to a Samsung Galaxy Note 3, and I'm anxious to learn to use the S-Pen and see how it can enhance my productivity when mobile.

Just read up on all of the replies, and after seeing this all, I'm going to stick with Android.
iPhones are just way too much money right now, and they are really not worth it. No customizability, and I love that about Androids the most. Thanks for the help guys! :D

You're welcome! And now that you're here, why not stick around? We're a pretty friendly bunch. :D

I have a Samsung Galaxy S3 for over a year now. There is really nothing about the new iPhone 5S or 5C that would make me want to trade my SGS3 for either straight up. I love my SGS3. It does everything I need. I feel I would be losing too much by switching to an iPhone.

Theres a lot of good things in an iPhone. I don't use them because that's just my choice, but if you feel like you need one, or want one then you should go and get one. You may be happier with one.
